Just wondering what everyone thinks. I am attending a work related training event. Diversity is a key element of my role and also of the training. The organisers have arranged to go for a meal at the local pub afterwards but have arranged a separate event at a different venue for those who would not go to a pub in a different restaurant.
Would it not be more inclusive for all to go to the non licensed premises, with the option for those who wish to go out drinking afterwards? It seems a shame that the connections between Muslim and non Muslim colleagues will not be strengthened through this work event.

WRT Jewish people, an ex colleague of mine who was a practicing Muslim, told me that kosher and halal meats are slaughtered the same way. While her preference is halal, she would kosher if there wasn’t any halal. I suspect it’s likely to be the same for Jewish people.

I still think a restaurant such as a Turkish restaurant would be inclusive for everyone. The meat is likely to be halal (and if you’re not a meat eater don’t kid yourself you’ve not eaten it. That’s unlikely certainly in London and I suspect other cities where there is a high Muslim community.)

I have worked with lots of Muslim people over the years. Not only will they come on a meal out for Christmas, even though they don’t celebrate it, but they don’t object to being around alcohol. They just drink mock tails or other soft drinks. And as other people have said a restaurant is less likely to be full of drunk people.

splitting the event into 2 is the opposite to diversity or inclusivity imho.

Incorrect. Halal and Kosher is far more than just how the meat is killed, its also to do with types of food allowed. Muslims can eat Kosher if there's no choice but Jews cannot eat Halal.

OK, I got it wrong there....and of course Jewish people keep meat and dairy separate.
