Its looking precarious about whether the 2026 Commonwealth Games will occur as the host city in Australia has pulled out.
The problems...
- expensive to host for little return on investment
- historic issues of the Commonwealth/Empire
However
- in some sports its apparently seen as a high profile competition (Netball for example according to BBC sport)
- it mixes together disabled sport competitions in with traditional sport formats, increasing visibility
- it means something to individual athletes
Overall I think it might have had its day in its current format.
YANBU... its time for the Commonwealth games to end
YABU... Its important for it to continue
