Olio collection will turn up without messaging me

I give stuff away on Olio all the time. Usually I leave outside after they've told me when they are coming.

Last Wednesday I uploaded some cleaning products and a guy requested. The guy has collected a lot of free stuff house, he can be flakey and usually turns up out of the blue.

So of coUrse the same thing happens - he requests, doesnt responses and turns up at my door step when I'm out.

Should I took offence to his message?

I don't get it.

Qbish · 18/07/2023 16:18

He's selling stuff on. Are you happy with that?

TimesRwo · 18/07/2023 16:19

I can’t see what is offensive?

I don't get it.

Sorry I should have proof read.

He turns up unannounced and I'm not home/stuff isn't outside.

He sends me a message saying he doesn't want to waste time, fuel and the environment etc to turn up for £1 cleaning products (they are £2.50 each but that's not the point lol).

Well maybe if he told me when he was coming I would leave them outside.....

Am I the only one who can’t make sense of where there is a problem with this? He seems polite enough.

RomeoMcFlourish · 18/07/2023 16:26

Where does it say he just turned up?

Sideorderofchips · 18/07/2023 16:29

He needs to give you a time when he is collecting rather than just turning ip. Thats part of the rule of olio

TheFlis12345 · 18/07/2023 16:30

But he told you, in the first message he said he could come that evening and asked you to leave them outside?

You then confuse it saying you’re not home but then when he suggests next week you say they are outside?!?

melj1213 · 18/07/2023 16:32

Ok I think I see the issue - you messaged him a week ago when he asked for the items to ask for a general time of collection.

Instead of getting back to you immediately and saying "I won't be in the area for a few days but can I let you know when I am in the area and then you can leave the item out for me?" he's waited until the day he is already nearby and then asked you to leave the item out for him, at which point you're already out of the house and can't do that.

When you said "No worries I'll leave them outside now", suddenly he's available to collect immediately as opposed to 'when he's in the area'

It is annoying but if you know he's flaky then I would not leave it up to him. In future give him a collection deadline and if he doesn't collect then relist for someone else.

TempName247 · 18/07/2023 16:36

He sounds friendly and polite, not sure what the issue is

If you look at the messages the OP asks when he would collect 6days ago.

The guy responded 1 day ago.

So essentially the OP asked "When can you collect?" And the guy ignored it until a week later when he said "I'm here" ... Because the OP didn't know he was coming she didn't leave the items out but didn't want this whole charade to repeat again so she just said "I've left them outside for whenever your ready"

Sorry I find it hard to follow what you've written.

I ask him when he is collecting. He doesn't respond. Turns up on my door step unannounced. I see him on my door camera and say I'm not home. He then says it's bad for the environment etc.

Why is he turning up unannounced and making his petrol and environment my issue?

Can you not block users on Olio? That's what I would do if I didn't want to deal with him anymore.

TomorrowToday · 18/07/2023 16:44

To be clear he turned to on my doorstep on Saturday...... when I was out and he hadn't responded to my message asking when he would collect.

So if he had said "is it ok I can collect Saturday" he didn't. Just turned up and now it's issue he's making another trip.

Yes I need to. Him and his wife.

Even with your explanation I can’t see what is so bad about his messages?

FebruaryOnMyMind · 22/10/2023 17:54

I've only joined recently and listed a few items for free and ask people to give a day and rough time then leave outside. I don't give address until they say time and day

Manin79 · 16/04/2024 10:13

Hi
I know it is frustrating. I’m a FWH on Olio and arnd Christmas time I’ve had a guy (who collected from me before) requesting mince pies and some pastries arnd 5am.
Firstly I did not confirm any collection, then at 6am he decided he’s coming anyway and
I was still asleep when I’ve heard someone ringing the bell, banging on the door repeatedly and even tried to open it.
I thought there is a burglar out there and my kids were scared too. Seriously I wanted to call Police. I’ve blocked him on Olio straight away!!
