To think this doesn't need a whole new door?

Obviously not an expert in car bodywork. But got a quote to repair this dent. Told it needs an entire new door and needs to be an insurance job. He got really arsey when I said I wouldn't go through the insurance.
Surely a new door is a bit excessive?

Looks like you might have caught the body below the door to?

Try another garage if you don't like the first response - I'm assuming it us just that silver car involved, and no other vehicle?

If it was my car and the damage was caused by someone else I would be getting a new door.
If I caused the damage myself to my own car I’d have a think about what to do.

I got caught on an electric gate. At a B&B I was staying at. The damage was caused by a sensor box in the gate. The angle to get out was really tight and I caught the gate. (Stayed there before and that gate always makes me nervous) The car is only a year old. No other drivers involved fortunately.

I e polished out the scratches since the pictures were take. And it actually doesn't look as bad.

If it’s a common car you can get a replacement door from a scrap yard. Get one the same colour and it will match the inside.

Who got arsey? If you did that to my car I’d want a new door but if I’d done that and it was rhe garage being arsey then I’d just go to a different place as it can be done more cheaply but may not look perfect

The body shop chap. Anyway. I managed to get a quote from a body shop I've used before. Who quoted £300 and no mention of a new door! Phew!
