A friend is just back from Spain and spent the whole week indoors as it was "unbearably" hot.
We have just cancelled. Weather may be unpredictable here but at least we can go out !

@Reservoirbogs

Certainly there's pockets of the med like Sardinia having it much hotter but the majority of southern Europe is not 48c. The media are whipping up a frenzy, wonder what their aim is? *.

FWW out of interest I've just looked at some airport latest reported weathers from that part of the Med:

Cagliari was at 40 c at 1420 local.
Alghero 37 at 1450 local

Bit further afield, similar times, Palermo 30 c at 1420 local, Catania 36c same time

Much further afield Athens reporting 36 at 1550 local.

Indeed. Imagine cancelling your holiday over it!

Where I’m in Croatia at the moment it’s been 30 degrees for the last few days. Hot but not that hot.

LlynTegid · 19/07/2023 17:21

Your choice to do so, understandable.

Just hope that others who cancel or decide to holiday in the UK in future years are not the kind of people who did so by exception in 2020 and 2021 and were a disgrace.

I don’t know why you booked a holiday to S.Europe if you don’t like hot weather. Some areas - mainly pockets of Greece and Italy are seeing awful temperatures. Were you actually going to Athens?

Many areas are around the 30s which is typical for this time of year. So the heat is very specific to some areas.

We’re off to a Spanish island next week and it looks high 20s/early 30s. Standard for this time of year.

I really hope you were booked to go to Athens or somewhere that is the 40s otherwise you’ve cancelled a holiday for no reason. And surely you can’t get your money back?

Oh calm down.

On this thread, half of Europe are hiding in cool cellars and shaving their dogs.

In the real world (and on live webcams), people are going about their business and keeping cool by taking shade at the hottest times and, if on holiday, swimming in the pool. Every Sun lounger taken, as per usual

I assume you're referencing my reply. Which is entirely based on the real world and the advice of actual Italians, living in Italy right now. Not just my in-laws, cousins and friends are all saying the same thing, stay where it's cool and visit us when things are more comfortable. We're no strangers to Italy in summer ourselves and it's unusual for them to comment on the weather.
