At a bus stop today (with 2 dc and dh), in pouring rain. There was a bus shelter that we were all just about squeezed under. An old man pat me on the bum and said I could have his seat. I just told him I was ok and thanks. Dh had asked me at the time what he’d said but I shrugged him off. When we got off the bus I told him and he was disgusted, said it wasn’t ok and was I ok? In the moment I really wasn’t phased, just thought he was a doddery old man.

Do you think he deliberately touched you there or was he just trying to get your attention? I would probably think it was odd but I don’t think I’d get upset about it.

I really don’t know! It didn’t occur to me at the time but on reflection he may have been seedy. It was a non issue. He was 85 odd, and possibly inebriated (which obviously doesn’t excuse inappropriate behaviour). I don’t feel violated!

In what way is having your bum touched without consent a non event? If it was a teenage boy would it be a non event? Or just old men who get off the hook
