To have some wine tonight?

I have tonsillitis and am on my 2nd day of antibiotics (got them Friday). I had a lovely weekend planned, child free so was going to get a take away and have a few glasses of wine last night. However, that obviously didn't happen as I was feeling so unwell.

Painkillers seem to be keeping the pain at bay and I am starving, haven't ate since Friday. Would I be unreasonable to order the take away and have a few glasses of wine? I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Check on the internet whether alcohol will adversely affect the efficacy of the antibiotics. If not, then enjoy your glass of wine.

If you can stomach it, go for it. Had a viral throat infection myself since Friday. Desperate for a G&T, but I can’t face it and no desire to eat either.

PuppyMonkey · 16/07/2023 16:57

I always thought no alcohol with antibiotics.

popicenice · 16/07/2023 16:58

Should mention I am off tomorrow and get kids back but I don't have any alcohol when in charge of kids so this is a rare treat which I don't want to miss out on. I have checked and there is no side affect to drinking with the abs I am on, just feel guilty for some reason lol.

Don’t feel guilty! Go for it if you fancy it and it’s safe.

some antibiotics do react badly with alcohol but by no means all.

Iloveacurry · 16/07/2023 17:02

I would if I was you.

popicenice · 16/07/2023 17:20

I am leaning that way. Also worried I wake up feeling worse tomorrow.

I definitely would!

NEmama · 16/07/2023 17:44

Yea just check your antibiotics don't react with alcohol

Oddsockday · 16/07/2023 17:47

Do it. It may help you fall asleep. A couple of glasses won't hurt. Enjoy and get well soon 💐

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 16/07/2023 17:52

I would treat yourself. But not drink so much that you are hungover tomorrow. Dealing with a hangover and tonsillitis would be absolute hell.

grunttheterrible · 16/07/2023 17:54

Some antibiotics are not compatible with antibiotics- metronidazole for example will have you walking to bed on your face. However you're likely on amoxicillin or pen v which is fine. Just do a cursory google first and remember to stop after 2 if you're working tomorrow (😉 do as I say, not as I do!)

It's not going down too well

It's not going to help you feel any better I'd save it

popicenice · 16/07/2023 19:21

Yeah I had one glass, forced down so leaving it for another time.

There is one antibiotic in particular you cannot take alcohol with. I’ve had it a couple of times but it is very clearly marked on the packaging. If you don’t have that antibiotic, have a glass of wine if you feel like it. One small glass won’t make much difference. Feel better soon OP.
