Loose stool

For a long time now (maybe 2 years or more) I've had bowel issues.

I know that if I eat certain things I'll get diarrhoea (for example if pizza was left out overnight and I ate it the next day)

But over the last year it's worse. I have had blood tests which show I'm not coeliac, all bloods were normal. I had a stool test to check for inflammation which I'm waiting to hear back from. Ovarian cancer bloods also normal. Had pelvic ultrasound and that was normal (that was due to spotting)

Slightly anaemic but nothing too bad.

Today for example TMI but I had a normal poo, then half hour later I had diarrhoea. All I've eaten is pancakes.

It's getting worse as I'm now carrying Imodium everywhere just in case.

It's never watery; it's more like very very very soft poo if that makes sense. Sometimes cramps but not always. I always have a lot of wind.

Terrified of bowel cancer, GP not helpful.

I'm 36 and female, which I think is still a risky age.

Lactose intolerance? I'd keep a food diary before starting to consider more serious causes. Hope you get it sorted.

You can be wheat intolerant without being coeliac.

When I work with people with bowel issues I always start with cutting out grains, dairy and soya. It usually works quickly too.

I am experiencing exactly the same, but just in the last 6 months. All tests normal, but symptoms continue. Am now being referred for coeliac testing.
Personally I feel it's an allergy/intolerance to some food, but wonder why that would appear suddenly at the age of 50.
Will be reading here for other people's experiences.

Yabu.

Likely IBS? It’s so so common. Look at FODMAP and track triggers.

10HailMarys · 15/07/2023 12:39

Sounds like IBS to me.

Chickenpastabowl · 15/07/2023 12:47

I have a dc with gluten intolerance (might be worth an elimination diet).
I have ibs (along with 2dc), we all react differently to treatment.
I've found prebiotic (in tablet form) helpful. Also intermittent fasting and reducing bread consumption. I still have bad days but probably once a fortnight, rather than every day.
It may be a case of trial and error, but only change one thing at a time so you know for sure if the change is the cause.
Also after 2 years it may be reasonable to ask for a referral to gastroenterology.

Sounds like IBS and not bowel cancer. Do you suffer with anxiety?

I can’t eat rapeseed oil and get a bad tummy if I do. It’s incredibly common to not tolerate it and it’s added to almost every packaged food these days.
