Grumbling appendix/low grade appendicitis

Sorry posting for traffic but I’m a bit anxious and can’t find much info on this.

Does anyone have any experience of a grumbling appendix/ low grade appendicitis?

I’ve had a dull tummy pain for about two months and went to the drs this week who diagnosed this - he prescribed antibiotics for 7 days and said if they don’t work then might need surgery to remove the appendix or surgery to have a look inside to find out whether it is appendicitis (sounds like a scary method of investigation !!!!). He felt my tummy and asked me a few questions then sounded quite sure it was this. No scans.

The pain sometimes comes and goes but it is always everyday and mostly present more often than not. Worse when sitting down or bending over.

I had mine removed aged 38. Its a serious thing if it ruptures op. I would definitely follow advice of your Dr and have it removed if advised.
Mine came on suddenly. Had op that night. 100% successfull. No brainer

Have you finished antibiotics and pain is the same ? If so contact GP /111 urgently. My friend had this.. ignored it hoping it would go away and it ruptured and was in hospital for a week. Hope you get sorted.

I did when I was at school. The doctor refused to take it out despite concerns raised by my family. On my last appointment with him he told my Grandma that I was exaggerating how much pain I was in to get out of school. Bloody thing burst a week later while I was on holiday abroad. I got peritonitis and I nearly died. Spent the next 10 days in hospital. I recommend not waiting for that to happen x

I had this a few years ago, but I was kept in hospital on IV antibiotics for a few days - about four I think, then sent home with some too. I think if they’d been able to fit me in to surgery on the first day they would have taken it out, but I did improve. A few months before the hospital incident I had similar pain, but it wasn’t enough to diagnose. It was obviously grumbling for a whileS

It hasn’t reoccurred but I’m always convinced it will.

I had 2 episodes of a grumbling appendix before then having an investigative operation. The surgeon said when he first went in it looked fine but as he lifted it to remove it it was leaking infection underneath which was what was causing all my pain and sickness

I had grumbling appendix flare ups over a year but the doctors just kept saying it was period pains. I eventually got full on appendicitis and they said they could see the scar tissue from the previous flare ups which is how they knew it had been a grumbling appendix. If the antibiotics don’t help or it gets worse definitely go back the doctors or call 111. I had mine out via keyhole but others on the ward and had to have the full operation and it looked painful!

My DD recently had appendicitis and appendectomy. Diagnosis was just an ultrasound where they measured the appendix.

She was in quite a lot of pain though and not able to move about very much.

Thanks for replying all. I’ve still got 4 days left of antibiotics. The pain is uncomfortable but certainly not unbearable but it does feel like it radiates sometimes further up and into the groin.

I spose I’m still not 100% convinced but the symptoms do make sense and area. Paranoid it’s something like a tumour but at least I am on the right track and if it doesn’t get any better I will certainly get help.
Thanks again!

Hi @Angryappendix

Did the antibiotics help in the end? How is it now? Experiencing similar and would be grateful to hear your experience.

Did you find out what happened. I’m waiting for ultrasound as gp thinks I may have this but there was no inflammation in bloodworks. I have pain bending over and on opposite side which she said is referred pain but when pressing down on appendix it hurts
