If someone loses your house keys

Hi,

My cat sitter was booked from yesterday evening until Monday evening.

Got a message from her at 6pm yesterday to say she couldn't find my keys including alarm fob, might be at her mums, in a car she sold?! or in her house somewhere.

Had to delay leaving till tonight as missed my train last night, cat sitter suggested she take my keys, I wasn't keen. Have another cat sitter I use as cover occasionally and she is able to cover from tonight, thankfully. Original cat sitter suggested she meet occasional cat sitter and take her keys, but I decided against.

If keys are lost I need to get locks changed and a new alarm fob, and maybe alarm reprogrammed, not sure yet.

Would you be annoyed, or accept one of those things?

Accept the alternative cat sitter. Don't have the one who has lost your keys again.

I would consider changing the locks after your holiday.

I would ask the cat sitter who lost them to pay for replacements/new lock or for her to claim on her insurance.

Don't give keys out.
Use a key safe - ideally within range of a security camera that will record who uses it and when.

I would expect a cat sitter to have insurance to cover lost customer keys. She needs to cover the cost of replacing your lock / keys and the alarm fob and any reprogramming

Last night was a bit stressful so only this morning thinking about if I use original cat sitter again at all
