Is there any way of getting them to sleep until 7:30?!

DS was 5.40am and if allowed, would be 5 mins earlier every day. DD1 was 0700 ish and DD2 had to be woken at 0800. Did nothing different and to be honest, they're still of the same pattern as adults!

What do they do when they wake up? Do you get up with them?! I’m not there yet but absolutely longing for a lie in one day.

Mine would just watch tele for 30 mins or play. The key is to put them to bed later on the weekends and knacker them out in the day.

My 6yo wakes around 6.30 but has a grow clock so knows to play until 7.

DC are pretty good and May wake early at 6am but when snuggle back in and will go back to bed for a good few hours. They go to bed around 9 on the weekend.

6am always - she is 9 now and still 6am. Her sister is 12 and still 6am. Doesn't matter when they go to bed. I've adjusted and don't want them to sleep later. During lockdown the 6am wake-up was handy - by 9am we had finished homeschooling and I could work. Now I can work (weekdays) and do all the cleaning and tidying chores (at the weekend) and we can be out doing other stuff by 9 am!

It's a cliche but at weekends before 7, we'll before 7, school days dragging him out of bed so he can go to school

Bedtime usually 8 in week 8.30-9 Saturdays

I have an early riser, and I’m an early waker myself.

I do think there is sometimes a tendency to see this as an inherent sort of character flaw on threads like this, and while ideally yes children would sleep a bit later a lot of them just don’t regardless of screens or whatever.

By all means encourage children to not disturb others until a particular time but honestly I think sometimes the more you stress about it the worse it is.

Dd7 wakes up at 8 most mornings, we have the occasional 6.45 but not very often. She goes to sleep about 8.30/9. Could you try a gro clock and tell them they are not allowed to get out of bed until the time it's set at? Also could you get up with them and go downstairs, let them watch TV or play and you snooze on the sofa?

UrsulaIsMyQueen · 15/07/2023 22:52

Between 7.30 and 8. Doesn’t go to bed until 8.30ish though. When she went to bed earlier, she was up earlier.

DrCoconut · 15/07/2023 23:10

Mine is 7 now. I usually wake him at 8 on school days and he wakes up naturally at 9:30 - 10 on non school days. None of my 3 have been/are early risers thank goodness. I don't know how people cope with getting up at 5 or 6 every morning.

DixonD · 15/07/2023 23:10

My just turned 7 year old wakes up at around 8/8.30am. This morning was 9.30am but we were out late last night.

Weekdays I wake her at about 7.45am.

Johnisafckface · 15/07/2023 23:26

My DD never slept past 6:30/7:00 when she was a child and still doesn’t and she’s almost 30. 😆. Even when staying up late she will still get up at the same time. She’s not much of a sleeper. I was always jealous of people that had kids that would sleep til 9 or 10
