To take a nap every day at 2pm?

Anyone else who jist can't keep thier eyes open at this time? I'm lucky to wfh so can crash on the sofa for 20 minutes but if u let myself I could sleep for well Over an hour. I go to bed at 11pm and up at 730 am. I just can't cope without a nap at 2pm. It doesn't matter what I eat for lunch.

It works in Spain

Butchyrestingface · 13/07/2023 15:26

YANBU. You are simply evolved.

Taptap2 · 13/07/2023 15:28

I understand it can be genetic the need to nap. I’m the same and always have been but now I have been diagnosed with autoimmune conditions I feel a bit more justified in doing so. I WFH and do the same when I can. I just shorten my lunch time to fit in a nap. I’m sure people will come along and say do a no carb lunch or to pull yourself together but there is a genetic element to it.

LemonLimeDivine · 13/07/2023 15:29

YADNBU. Naps are a thing of wonder. 😁

tourdefrance · 13/07/2023 15:31

Is this new?

If so, maybe tell your doctor in case there is something else going on that can be treated.

Naps are fine though.

Turfwars · 13/07/2023 15:32

A woman I know gets up at 5am, is on the go non stop between running her 3 businesses, the 4 kids and family life and also manages to fit in a daily work out as well as course work and working until 11pm and she swears that her daily nap at lunchtime makes it possible.

I think I would be far more productive if I could do a 30 min nap in the day. When we were all in lockdown I did it sometimes and could blast through loads in the evening after doing bedtimes. Whereas now I'm wrecked by 8pm.

So if it works for you, crack on!

KeepSmiling89 · 13/07/2023 15:35

I was just talking to someone at work about this today!
Looking online, research says the ideal length of a power nap is about 20 minutes...no longer than 30 as that's when the body enters deep sleep and you're more likely to wake up feeling groggy etc.
I read somewhere else that the best time of day for a nap is between 2 and 5pm.

You're lucky you WFH so you've got that option...not going to lie, I sometimes put my head down at my desk at work if I'm having an admin day just to get a wee break!

WeetabixTowels · 13/07/2023 15:36

Do it. I often spend my WFH lunch hour napping and I feel much better for it

Mariposista · 13/07/2023 15:43

Since my gran died 3 months ago, I have been sleeping absolutely terribly at night. If I can, I sometimes do have a nap after lunch and it does get me through the afternoon.

Bexx87 · 13/07/2023 15:43

I love a nap and would have one every day if I could. If I don't get to have one I'm usually asleep by 9pm.

BlushBlue · 13/07/2023 15:44

This thread's making me sleepy!

TinyTeacher · 13/07/2023 15:47

God I'd love one. go for it!

Just checking though - how old are you and is this new? Just in case you might need a blood test in case you're low in something....

Personally I have pregnancy insomnia. Driving me and.

NotSorry · 13/07/2023 15:49

I’ve been having a daily nap since my eldest was born in 1997. I bloody love it. Luckily I work for myself so I fit it in. OP YANBU

ErrolTheDragon · 13/07/2023 15:49

A short after lunch nap is reckoned to be very good for you. I wish I could do it, but I can only nod off if we've been out for the morning and DH is driving us home.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/07/2023 15:53

I was nodding off at 1.30pm this afternoon, can’t take 40 winks though so my trick is to drink a big glass of water over 10 mins. It really makes me feel less sleepy in the early/mid afternoon.

Blossomandbee · 13/07/2023 15:53

I would love to do this, I'm always flagging by early afternoon. In other countries it's normal to have afternoon siestas, and animals sleep periodically through the day. It might be what we were designed to do!

Owlieandfoxy · 13/07/2023 15:54

In my young 20s I had very very low iron and would fall asleep at 3pm everyday at my desk. It was only a very short nap. My boss took the calls and made me a cuppa for when I woke up again!

MouseSculptureMadeOfOldHairbrushFluff · 13/07/2023 15:55

daytime naps make me feel all discombobulated

Owlieandfoxy · 13/07/2023 15:55

And now I'm on propranolol at 3pm daily - and it makes me so sleepy!

Must. Stay...awake...

TomatoSandwiches · 13/07/2023 15:57

YANBU, I also take a nap most days around 1pm, if you need it you need it.

RumbleMum · 13/07/2023 15:57

YANBU. I am a champion napper. I'd say YABU having only the one nap tbh.

I've always been a napper but now I've been diagnosed with ADHD I alternate working with napping during the day and I've never been more productive 😁

CC4712 · 13/07/2023 15:58

Is this new or always the case? What would you do if you didn't WFH? Can you stay awake if out and about say on a weekend, or its a daily need?

Have you been checked for anaemia, Vit D deficiency and thyroid/sugar checks?

Leftbutcameback · 13/07/2023 16:03

There was a study recently where they found people who napped like this had better / bigger brains (I need to find it!). So if you can, go for it!

Gerrataere · 13/07/2023 16:05

I wish I could nap but once I’m awake that’s it. I get about 6 hours interrupted sleep at night, it’s not restful (I very likely have adhd and my brain doesn’t switch off when asleep, very vivid dreams that make me feel I just lived another life for a few hours). By mid afternoon I feel sick with exhaustion, I literally crawl through the two school runs. My eyes are dark and bloodshot, god knows what people think. I really should drink more water during the day, coffee isn’t doing the trick. If anything it makes me want to sleep more.
