To take a nap every day at 2pm?

Anyone else who jist can't keep thier eyes open at this time? I'm lucky to wfh so can crash on the sofa for 20 minutes but if u let myself I could sleep for well Over an hour. I go to bed at 11pm and up at 730 am. I just can't cope without a nap at 2pm. It doesn't matter what I eat for lunch.

You need magnesium. It eliminates that afternoon bone tired feeling

MenArentMindReaders · 13/07/2023 16:07

How much exercise are you getting? If none then maybe some light exercise purely for the endorphins to get you through the day. But only if the napping is a problem for you.

When I wfh I just started on the wonderful peri journey. I would nap all the time, I just couldn't help it. Sometimes in the winter I'd put the fire on and curl up in front of it for ages! I can't do that now I'm self employed, plus if a client came home and found me asleep like Goldilocks they'd die of fright!

Ask your GP to check your iron, thyroid etc

You could try going to bed earlier, it’s been proven the best quality sleep is before midnight. So try 10pm instead of 11pm. Avoid blue light 2 hours before bed. If you wake frequently address it. Also worth checking for sleep apnea.

Make sure to get some fresh air and exercise daily. Eat a healthy diet and stay hydrated. Eat balanced meals of protein carbs and fat, if you eat carb only or carb meals these spike blood sugar and the sudden inevitable drop in blood sugar results in sleepiness.

If you’re doing all of the above and nothing to address from bloods/no sleep apnea and you still need to nap then nap, your body just obviously needs it.

The hour I have between finishing work and school pick up is golden time for a nap and I get a bit grumpy if there's something I'm forced to do or I get phone calls. I think everyone deserves a nap time and I'm very lucky to be able to have one.
My mother on the other hand thinks I'm a lazy thing. "You're a mother now, you don't get a rest." Silly thing.

Mumtothreegirlies · 13/07/2023 16:22

I did sometimes when my kids were little on my
days off. Once I overslept and missed the school run 😳

Absolutely get you @Pineapplestropical I am lucky to WFH and to have a very flexible job, and I sometimes need (and have) a power nap too - 20 to 30 mins usually late afternoon like 3 or 4pm.

Oddly, If I am out/in company/shopping/day trip etc, I don't need it, but when I am at home, I NEED a quick power nap. Maybe it's an age thing I don't know (late 50s here.) I never used to do it til about 4-5 years ago, but then I wasn't working from home then..., I also had kids at home for 20-ish years (up to 2015-ish.) So the opportunity to have a nap rarely came up!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/07/2023 16:35

When I have the chance on wfh days I like to take a nap if I can.

For some reason I always feel a bit sheepish about it and usually say I’ve got to nip out during lunchtime but no reason really

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/07/2023 16:44

I think I have a nap gene!
I am like this as are 2 of my sons

My DH is a terrible insomniac and when he WFH he'll go for a 30 min nap every day on his lunch break. Take seep whenever you can get it!

BogRollBOGOF · 13/07/2023 17:06

I like a 20-30 min afternoon nap before the evening gets busy. Alarm on, youtube sleep meditation, and enjoy 😁

GloomySkies · 13/07/2023 17:10

In my old job years ago we had 2 30 minute breaks in a day, only one person at a time. I would use one of my breaks to have a 20 minute nap in the staffroom. Good times.

wholivesondrurylane · 13/07/2023 17:14

I would if I could!

Fergie51 · 13/07/2023 17:16

I love an afternoon nap, always feel so much better after it.

I am now retired, but when I was working full time, how I struggled between two and three o’clock to stay alert. I just wanted to curl up away from the glaring light and nod off.

ManchesterLu · 13/07/2023 17:28

There's nothing wrong with naps - however if it's a new thing that you need to have a nap, there might be something wrong. Most likely low iron, vit d, something like that.

It might be worth having a blood test if you're significantly more tired than normal, but if you feel like you need a nap then there's no harm in it. It works in Spain!

Pineapplestropical · 13/07/2023 17:45

Im 39 and as far as I know bloods are ok, but do need a re test especially for blood sugar as i was told I was pre diabetic. I've always had a tendency to need a nap during the day. If I'm out at that time I can soldier on but I do definitely feel tired and that I've missed something from my day!

I have a nap in the afternoon, a snoooze on the sofa with the two pussy cats.

LouisaMayAlcott · 13/07/2023 17:57

Since I started wfh 7 years ago I always have a 30 minute sleep between 2 and 3 o'clock. I used to sleep in the evenings when I was out at an office during the day, but now I go to bed at 10.30, up at 6.00 and have my doze in the afternoon and I feel great!

LoisPrice · 13/07/2023 17:59

It’s really better for your health to have an afternoon nap

newyearsresolurion · 13/07/2023 18:07

I work long hours and I have a toddler on my days off definitely nap for an hr or 2

HereToo · 13/07/2023 18:08

I used to do this OP and I thought it was 'just the way I am'.

Then I had my bloods done and it turned out I had a very under-active thyroid.

flurbubbly · 13/07/2023 18:23

YANBU, I do the same!

Wildspace · 13/07/2023 20:18

This is very good for you. I’m envious!!

drunkpeacock · 13/07/2023 20:35

As long as work are happy with that routine then it's nobody else's business.

I would prefer a sleep routine where I did two hours in the afternoon say 2-4 then six overnight so maybe 1-7am.

I can't do that most of the time but can get in that pattern over holidays occasionally and feel much happier for it. We're all different 🤷🏽‍♀️

Middersweekly · 13/07/2023 21:13

This is me also OP.
2pm every day, if I can have a nap then I will!
I feel refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the day after a little nap! 40mins-1 hour if possible. I also WFH.
