… get real is my dad’s favourite catchphrase and the older I get the more I seem to use it (mainly inside my head, despite sometimes really wanting to say it to a person). What are the things that make you want to say ‘get real’ to people that are total non issues that they get their tits in a twist about?
For me:
- What ‘celebrities’ do - unless it’s illegal what’s it got to do with you?
- Interactions with people working in hospitality/retail - unless they are downright rude then why get into a huff over a momentary transaction?
- Wedding outrage - you didn’t invent weddings, lots of things in normal life don’t go to plan, do your best to have a fun day with the people you love and not tot up perceived infringements, it’s petty
- Baby outrage - the world doesn’t need to feel the way you do about your kid, I have two goddaughters who I love to death, but they’re not perfect in the same way that I am not and no one is
- Present outrage - a gift is given without the promise of reciprocation, maybe ask for a dictionary for your birthday if you don’t understand
I don’t understand where people get the energy from to be offended over minor ‘infractions’. Calm the fuck down.
