Would you think this worth it?

Getting up before 6AM to travel for just over an hour and 2 buses to do a very physically taxing job for 9 hours with a return journey home of just over an hour also. To be paid £13 an hour for it. This would be twice a week.

No it is not worth it

Beaconofasseptability · 11/07/2023 18:23

What does the bus cost? How much are you taking home for it? Is it a condition of a bigger job or contract that you do it?

Bringonthepitchforks · 11/07/2023 18:24

If the alternative is being unemployed I'd say yes. If you can use it for a few years experience and leave for promotion yes. If it's just a job because it's a job, no.

Beaconofasseptability · 11/07/2023 18:24

How badly do you need the job and/or money?

Dacadactyl · 11/07/2023 18:25

@Bringonthepitchforks I agree with you

Stressful00 · 11/07/2023 18:27

Nursery work. Work at one site normally, now being asked if I can do this other one. It's not compulsory but feel a bit under pressure to do it.
Just thinking it's not really worth my time or effort especially as I will no doubt be treated like crap there as am not part of the permanent team. But feel I am being lazy for not doing it so it's a tough one.
Could do with the money but not desperately.

Can you explain to them the logistics and offer to be a float rather than a permanent staff member as a solution?

Beaconofasseptability · 11/07/2023 18:31

In those circs no I wouldn’t.

musicforthesoul · 11/07/2023 18:31

No I wouldn't be doing that, not unless I was desperate for the money or it was a particular job I really wanted as a career step.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/07/2023 18:36

Ask to be paid for the extra travel time and have your bus fares reimbursed.

This would be standard for many jobs. If your normal place of work is site A, and you have to work at site B, the extra time and cost of going to a site other than your normal place of work is paid by your employer.

In addition to this, are there other employees willing to job share this extra work, so you only have to do one extra day a week each?

Stickybackplasticbear · 11/07/2023 18:42

Did you ask about this previously op?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 11/07/2023 18:46

How far is the actual journey, would it be possible on a bike or is there someone who works there that you could give petrol money to?

2 buses and an hour is about how long it would take me to get to the retail park 3 miles away if I took the bus because you have to go into town then back out again, but it would be a lot quicker via any other transport method.

Clarachuff · 11/07/2023 19:18

I wouldn't
