Dog pee on carpet

Leo1195 · 11/07/2023 17:57

I had guests stay in my airbnb for two months who have two dogs. Whilst staying there my cleaner went twice to clean and said they had left the house in a state and that the dogs has weed on the carpet. My cleaner also told me they had asked her to try to clean the stains, which she did but this is a job for a professional carpet cleaner with a machine, as the stain have now come out. I am now saying I want some money for a carpet clean but they are refusing saying they paid my cleaner to do it, they’ve paid the cleaning fee that I only have set at £10 and that they’ve already spent a lot of money to stay there.

AIBU - to ask them for extra to clean my carpets
YANBU - don’t back down and get the money.

Their dog stained the carpet, they’re responsible for cleaning it by paying for a professional clean.

If they payed a deposit you should keep that back for the professional clean but I'm assuming they didn't?

@Msplace i don’t believe Airbnb keep deposits no

Your cleaning fee is set to low, particularly for stays that allow pets. Typically accommodation that allows dogs charges upwards of £25 per night to cover additional cleaning.
I think you are wrong for wanting to add on charges afterwards-you should be charging upfront

Leo1195 · 13/07/2023 09:09

@Instawars It is set low because I think the price per night is enough to also pay for a clean. When you go to a hotel you don’t pay separately for cleaning. That’s cleaning fee is also for general cleaning which if including pets would be things like dog hair not wee stains on a carpet?

It's annoying but if you allow pets you have to accept that they're sometimes going to leave more than pet hair behind however grim.
I don't think you should ask for more now and you should put your fee up so that it covers a proper clean should you need it.

Was the cleaning fee just £10 for the whole 2 months? If so that seems very low for a stay with pets. I like to think most dog owners would be thoughtful enough to deal with the accident at the time when it would have been possible to clean without need to bring in professionals. Unfortunately, there are piss takers out there and you need to factor those people into your prices.
