While booking transportation via the 5 star hotel where we’re hosting corporate guests, I’ve sent an ok to a wrong date for the trip. It’s my mistake obviously, but the date is one week before the guests are due at the hotel, and I never enquired for that date to begin with.
AIBU to ask them to acknowledge their part in this and not charge me in full? What’s the best I can hope for?

I'm not sure I understand the question? If I understand it: You said OK to the wrong date and now want to change it to the correct date- without charge?

How soon after the error did you tell them you'd made the error? Within minutes or a few hours- you shouldn't pay anything.
More than a day- then yes, you'd have to pay a fee for YOUR error.

What do their T&C's say? I assume that if they couldn't take a booking because of your error- then they'd say that is what the fee is for.

teoma · 10/07/2023 19:48

They booked me for a date where I’m not even staying there, this is a mistake in their end too, though. I’ve ok the price but I have overlooked the wrong date.

Just ask them to change the date? Doesn't sound like it's your mistake - you just failed to spot their mistake which is a different thing

NamelessNancy · 10/07/2023 19:56

I'd expect them to correct it but I don't know why you'd expect a discount.

teoma · 10/07/2023 19:58

I would be fine as long as the transportation is also arranged for the right date. They want me to pay again.

Jinglybangly · 10/07/2023 20:09

I would plead ignorance "I've already paid, I just need you to correct the mistake you made with the date, thanks" repeat as needed.

teoma · 10/07/2023 20:14

Sadly the driver already went there to supposedly pick up guests - huge hassle. I’m extremely worried, thanks for the answers!

So they provided a service that you booked? And you want a discount because they should have married up the room bookings with the transport? Sorry it really doesn’t work that way. Try not to get stressed, own up to the error with your boss and you can put it behind you. I’m not being unsympathetic - I know it’s shit when you make an error, I’ve been there! But it’s not the fault of those that you booked with from what you’ve said, they were just fulfilling the booking.

teoma · 10/07/2023 20:30

Appreciate your opinion, but I don’t think anyone would look to book transportation on a different date. I’ve confirmed payment for rooms and asked if there’s a car available that can take the guests back from a Wimbledon game.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 10/07/2023 20:40

Your explanation is a little difficult to understand, are you sure your instructions to the hotel were clear?

If they did what you asked you can't expect them to pay for your mistake

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 10/07/2023 20:42

Is Wimbledon even on next week?

CC4712 · 10/07/2023 20:42

I still don't understand. How soon after the error- did you alert them to it? Only once a driver went to collect them and no one was there???

Clymene · 10/07/2023 20:45

You you mean you booked a hotel and separately you booked transport to the accommodation via the hotel and you cocked up and booked it for the wrong date? And you think they should refund you for your error?

Nah.

teoma · 10/07/2023 20:45

Yes, our guests are seeing a game on the 16th.

I payed for their stay on the night of the 16th and asked if they can be picked up and taken to the hotel from the game they’re seeing.

Then earlier tonight I get a call from an angry guy who’s waiting there, 6 days earlier.

Apologies if I’m a bit unclear. Just super distressed.

Plenty of people book multiple transport options during single hotel stays. I used to work for a Disney VP. I always double checked what I said and what came back. You approved it. That is where is buck stops I’m afraid. As I say, I’ve fucked up before, learnt a lesson, said sorry and moved on. Devil is in the details. Service providers aren’t mind readers. But you’re hellbent on this being their issue somehow…

GwinCoch · 10/07/2023 20:48

And actually this is the best way round - much worse if your guests were without transport on the day. As mess ups go, this is easily saved.

Overthebow · 10/07/2023 21:07

So you ok'd the date they emailed and the driver turned up on that date? I think you'll have to pay twice, they will have to send transport again on the correct date.

Kinneddar · 10/07/2023 21:10

You'll have to bite the bullet. It's your mistake and the driver has been for the boking so his company will expect paid.

The fact you've confirmed the date that's on you. The hotel aren't obliged to give you any discount. They did what you asked.

Clymene · 10/07/2023 21:34

So you got a confirmation that transport was booked for the 10th and you said okay great and didn't notice it was the wrong day?

Your fault I'm afraid.

Vinvertebrate · 10/07/2023 21:37

Sorry OP but this sounds like a you problem.

I wouldn’t expect them to cross-check the date. Just own it - literally everyone has fucked something up at work.

Prisonbreak · 10/07/2023 21:50

You messed up. Human error but you shouldn’t be honoured a discount.

NewNovember · 10/07/2023 21:54

So you asked for the 16th they booked the 10th and you said ok. It's 50-50 then, they should offer a 50% discount.
