To ask if Covid is still a thing?

I’ve had Covid twice. Both times were just a mild cold.

Today I’ve got body aches, hot flushes, a really tickly cough, a sore chest and a headache. I feel worse than I did when I had Covid.

is Covid still doing the rounds? Or have I probably just got a normal cold

Giving round school again

Qilin · 10/07/2023 19:18

Covid hasn't gone anywhere, it's unlikely to disappear for a long time, if ever.

However, you could have a cold, you could have a flu virus, you could have covid. Or you could have one of the many other viruses out there. You will only know it's covid if you decide to test.

TwilightSkies · 10/07/2023 19:18

Yep, it’s still going strong. People just don’t talk about it.

3girlsmama · 10/07/2023 19:22

A family member had it for the second time recently and it was quite a bad dose much more so than the first time - presumably a different varient. Worth testing and I hope you feel better soon.

Willyoujustbequiet · 10/07/2023 19:23

Yes. My healthy 35 year old friend has just come out of hospital from nasty dose of it.

Marsyas · 10/07/2023 19:26

I had it three or four weeks ago, so did DH and DS. I was knocked out for two weeks. It wasn’t as bad as the first time I had it, when I couldn’t get out of bed for two weeks, but I had breathing difficulties, it felt like I wasn’t getting enough oxygen. I’m still not fully recovered.

Intemperatefatty · 10/07/2023 19:26

It most definitely still is a thing and will be forever. I read somewhere that we are currently in the midst of another wave.

I had my third infection two weeks ago; loads of my colleagues have it now or had it recently. It floored me a for a good few days. I am still battling the brain fog and coughing, and struggling with my breathing. I’m glad we have moved on from the restrictions but it’s still a very nasty virus for some of us.

noglow · 10/07/2023 19:29

Could be covid or there was a covid like thing going round- everyone thought it was but it kept showing negative

Gonnawashmymouthout · 10/07/2023 19:30

just asking because I’ve not heard anyone talk about it for ages. I can’t remember having the cold since Covid started and I used to have the cold umpteen times every winter

Tested positive a week ago, felt like arse for 5 days!

SlipSlidinAway · 10/07/2023 19:32

DS has it currently - must be his third time.

TheNinny · 10/07/2023 19:33

got it a few weeks ago, I’d never tested positive before.

Meeting · 10/07/2023 19:42

It's just one of the many viruses in circulation.

If I'm unwell then I stay home, I don't need a diagnosis of which virus I'm suffering from.

Cas112 · 10/07/2023 19:48

Yes.. know 2 people in past 2 months who have had it

Pre covid I wouldn’t have stayed at home with just a cold to be honest

I had it just after half term. Breathless, fever, cough, runny nose and eyes. It was horrible.

MzHz · 11/07/2023 22:16

@Gonnawashmymouthout have you tested? I’ve still got a couple of boxes of tests from when ds was at school.

tested positive yesterday morning

headache has eased, which is good, but my throat is taking over. At least the brain is still working, last time I was physically well but mentally pure fog.

I wouldn’t stay at home with a cold in terms of supermarket, or if mild a hobby with oh.

I’m trying not to give it to him either so am in spare room and other end of sofa or eating in different place to him

But I’m not mixing with anyone if I can avoid it.

feel better @Gonnawashmymouthout

Gowlett · 11/07/2023 22:20

Argh, I’ve just developed a cough / fire-y chest this evening… I haven’t had the bloody booster either!

Wimbo · 11/07/2023 22:21

COVID is a coronavirus like the common cold; the minute it arrived it was was almost never going to be irradiated. The WHO have stated the pandemic is over but COVID will continue to circulate.

Do you get tested for flu if you suspect that? That’s how we’ll all have to deal with it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/07/2023 22:23

Yes, it’s endemic now.

Had you had jabs when you had it previously?

wizzbitt · 11/07/2023 22:24

Yes definitely making a come back in schools. I'm pretty sure I had it last week. General fatigue, some breathlessness, cold symptoms but I just put it down to being run down. It was only at the weekend it occurred to me it could be Covid but by then I had taught a students all week!
Lots of teachers at DC school off this week with it too.
I stopped getting tests once you had to start paying for them.

Blinky21 · 11/07/2023 22:52

Had covid a few weeks ago, really nasty! People I know still talk about it, it hadn't gone anywhere

Blinky21 · 11/07/2023 22:53

Covid has a much higher mortality rate than the flu, I lost 2 people, one only in their 40s, to it this year

bonfirebash · 11/07/2023 22:57

Yep, I had another vaccine at the end of June and they said I would be called for another in winter

Hufflemuff · 11/07/2023 22:59

Why does it matter to you? What difference would it make to you vs a normal cold
