Cycling in regents Park today, the road leading up to the ambassadors residence was closed to cars, heavy police presence, knife arches going up, some American Govt Agency searching those going in.

I knew something was happening.

What does this mean??

Has he landed already?

Interesting, could be the Pres but it was operating with the callsign GRIMM99, rather than AF1 and it's not one of the standard presidential aircraft.

The particular 747 Flightradar tracked is one of those modified for use an airborne operations centre (hence the extra bumps for antenna)...

You do see those often travelling as part of the Presidential flying convoy..wonder if Pres snuck a ride on it or if his aircraft was elsewhere??

GRIM isn't Air Force 1. GRIM is the doomsday plane.

AF1 isn't on Flight radar. You need to use ADSB exchange: globe.adsbexhange.com and it's just over Wirral now at 29k feet

But yes, I've now spotted AF1 it on ADSB exchange, exactly where you describe...

As you say AF1 rarely if ever "shows" on standard Flight radar and not sure subscribers to Flightradar get to see it either.

US chinooks and (what looked like) the presidential helicopters were flying/circling over Hyde Park on Thursday afternoon, probably in prep. A US military chinook flew over me about 20mins ago too.

Sorry @notimagain . I've just been listening to a load of people saying that GRIMM is AF1 and I was a bit snappy.

I get a load of UK military stuff at low level over my house and it isn't on FR24 so I often use ADS-B exchange. ADS-B doesn't have the destination on, unlike FR24 or Plane Finder, so I think a combo is the best.

No worries, I know where you were coming from..

I'd agree with you on the combo idea- Flight radar has a more user friendly interface in many ways, OTOH ADS-B, whilst less friendly, gives more complete coverage of military traffic and doesn't mask some of the niche civilian stuff that flight radar chooses to hide (such as some of the bizjets).

Heard the military aircraft go past in formation about an hr ago assume that means he's landed in Stansted...

The tracking on ADS-B exchange got a bit jittery a moment ago then dropped out but it looks like he just touched down (at 45 minutes past the hour)

Indeed. And there is a 757 around 20? minutes behind just passing E of Birmingham which may be AF2 (or not). I'm off to bed now as I've had loads of disturbed nights. Nice to see fellow Avgeeks on here
