To have panicked? Dog

My dog was excited earlier because someone had been to the door, she came running to see me and suddenly started coughing, then repeatedly swallowing, sneezing, gagging, throwing her head around, panicking, couldn’t stop, trying to catch her breath etc etc … she looked like she was having a fit! I ran to try and help but there was nothing I could do, I slapped her on the back a few times incase she had something stuck in her throat but it did nothing. After a minute or so it stopped but she seemed panicked and disoriented. AIBU to be panicking?! DH thinks so.

She’s started pooing in the house every night which is out of character and she was treated for colitis around 2 weeks ago. The house poo stopped but it’s started up again, she threw up yesterday 8 hours after eating and now this episode today!! DH thinks she just had something stuck in her throat but it looked like she was having a fit!

I am a very anxious person (genuine diagnosed anxiety) so I can overreact (and often do).

AIBU to think something clearly isn’t right? Vet thinks she’s fine, DH thinks she’s fine … it’s just me!?

Reverse sneezing?

KimberleyClark · 09/07/2023 10:56

Take her to the vet.

My dog has epilepsy, it doesn't sound like a seizure.

Sounds just like she'd got over excited and reverse sneezing, snorting, generally being wound up.

SilverTotoro · 09/07/2023 12:28

The sneezing Id treat as a one off unless it happened again, but coupled with pooing indoors regularly (when normally your dog is fully house trained) would be something I’d go back to the vets for.

If she does it again, try and film her. The vet will thank you for being able to show what she does, rather than just describe it.

Go to the vet immediately, appreciate out of hours, but she's likely had a seizure.vets are not always right, you need a diagnosis asap.your dog is dependent on you to help her. Please do so.🐕🐾🐾🌻
