This is a weird way to eat…

Each element on your plate separately…

i.e salad 1st, potatoes 2nd and meat last. (or whatever order your food preference is) DH has always done this and I think it’s so normal to me now that I don’t think much about it, however I took my DD’s out for lunch today and noticed middle DC does the same thing too.

AIBU that when a meal has been designed/ made its with the intention of flavour, textures and parts to go together.

I eat everything separately starting with the thing I like least and finishing with my favourite. Spaghetti Bolognaise I dig through and get all the spaghetti before eating the mince last. I'm banned from ordering it when we eat out 😂

I do the same when my DH makes it, never order it in a restaurant though. I like the pasta and sauce bit, but the mince is meh to me.

justme2022 · 09/07/2023 11:16

@TomatoSandwiches yeah. No idea why. I've just always eaten it that why.

*way

ChaChaRealSmooth · 09/07/2023 11:18

I’m autistic and I do this

Bearpawk · 09/07/2023 11:21

It's actually meant to be really useful for managing high blood glucose levels.
Veggies; then protein/ fat then carbs.

zingally · 09/07/2023 11:33

Both my mum and I do this.
We always make sure the last bite of the meal is the bit we like best!
When my mum is eating a sandwich, she'll always eat the crusts first, "because they're the most boring bit!"

Sunnyfunnytimes · 09/07/2023 11:36

I do this sort of thing, I think what’s unreasonable is you being judgey about how he eats and starting threads about him, it’s not very nice.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 09/07/2023 11:51

An ex-friend of mine used to eat like this and I thought it was unhinged. I wish I’d listened to that little voice - could have saved myself a lot of time…

OneTC · 09/07/2023 11:54

If it's fast food like maccas then I eat the chips, then the burger, then the nuggets, then the drink.

If it's food served on a plate then every fork full is pretty much identically composed

That's a nice thing to say to all the people saying they eat like that

Moltenpink · 09/07/2023 11:56

I have to have a bit of everything on my fork but I take this too seriously, so when I get to my last forkful there will be for example a quarter slice of carrot, one pea, meat, potato left on the plate.

DS is of the eat one item at a time camp, I used to find this odd but DD just picks at everything and hardly eats, so I much prefer his method 🤦‍♀️

TragicMuse · 09/07/2023 12:13

I generally really do not like mixing things on my fork. I just don't. I can if it's something like shepherd's pie which is 'meant' to be eaten together but a meat and 2 veg thing I would eat separately.

So what? It's my preference. It has no impact on anyone else.

mrsbyers · 09/07/2023 12:16

My husband eats certain meals like this , veggies first to get them over with , then potatoes then the best part for him the meat

C1N1C · 09/07/2023 12:21

I do this. Now I'm doubting myself.

GalileoHumpkins · 09/07/2023 12:21

Does he enjoy his food, does he eat it all? If yes then who the hell cares how he eats it, people are so weirdly invested in how other people ingest things.

MargaretThursday · 09/07/2023 12:22

I do it to a certain extent, though more as a child, and one of my dc's does it too.

CoalCraft · 09/07/2023 12:22

I do this. DH doesn't, neither of us are weird.

hookiewookie29 · 09/07/2023 12:23

My husband thinks I'm odd because I put a little bit of everything on my fork together.

WickedSerious · 09/07/2023 12:23

JeandeServiette · 09/07/2023 00:28

Very normal behaviour for aspies. 🤷

Yes,it's how I eat and my DS is exactly the same.

Readinstead · 09/07/2023 12:30

I usually eat everything separately and used to save the best til last but my df pointed out that the best bit would be cold and not so nice which made sense, so now I usually eat veg, best bit, then the rest.
Salads are the exception and I will eat that all mixed together. Stews etc I will eat the veg and keep most of the meat til last - small bits of meat stay on the spoon with the veg.

Your dinner, up to you.

A minority of people are weirdly controlling of other people's meals. Ignore them.

How long does it take you to eat a meal that any part is cold by the end? I’m in my 50s and I’ve never ever taken so long to eat a meal that the last part of the plate is actually cold.

Irequireausername · 09/07/2023 12:38

So for people who do this, you don't even go around in a circuit i.e bacon, eggs, beans, bacon eggs, beans? Instead you eat all the bacon, then all the eggs, then the beans?

I eat quite randomly, i.e a bit of veg, then mash, maybe veg and mash together, then meat, then maybe meat and mash etc. I thought this was normal 🤔

midsomermurderess · 09/07/2023 12:39

phoenixrosehere · 09/07/2023 10:23

Or just a preference.

Or a joke.

Readinstead · 09/07/2023 12:47

I was a child when my df gave me the advice, so I ate a lot slower then! The eating order is now a habit.
