To ask when your children were potty trained?

Starting to stress a bit and I know you shouldn’t but can’t even make the smallest steps as my toddler won’t even sit on the potty, just refuses to. 2 ys 8 months, and most other children we know are either trained or well on the way!

2 years 3 months

I read Sarah Ockwell-Smith's Gentle Potty Training book and Oh Crap by Jamie Glowacki

A big part of it for us was all the "emotional preparation" we did, the first time when she was 23 months I think I rushed it. The second time we spent 2 weeks talking about the run up to it (we did it during the May half term) and she knew what to expect.

I will say I've noticed most kids her age at our toddler groups are still in nappies, not sure why as I thought this was a popular age. SOS says on her book that most children are ready between 20-30 months. JG says you should potty train your child before they are 3 because prior to this they are more helpful and enjoy doing things for you, but by 3 they are more defiant. She also recommends readiness between 20-30 months.

Really recommend reading/listening to these. JG actually has a podcast.

2 years 9 months for eldest, 3 years and a couple of months for second. Both dry very quickly, I knew second would not have been ready any earlier despite nursery pressuring me.

It doesn’t work - he just gets up and watches the TV anyway 🤦🏻‍♀️ thanks though!

I also recommend the oh crap book. Get him naked and watch like a hawk. When he starts to pee, move him to the potty. The book gives all the what's and whys and it works brilliantly. She recommends before 30 months for a few reasons. It's a very easy to read book. Good luck

It feels like a huge thing, but this will pass. Keep a potty around, get a toilet seat insert for him to see if he's interested in that, play potty songs (cocomelon, LBB etc) and ask him if he can get his wee to touch a garden plant. When he's interested he'll start engaging, and that will be that.
