Anyone here work with speeding offences

I’ve got a speeding letter. Doing 47 in a 30.

Dual carriage way (50 mph) had temporary traffic lights (which were green) I obviously missed the reduction from 50 to 30 sign and hadn’t slowed down as the lights were green.

Totally my fault. I am remorseful. What I want to know is, will it be a flat £100 fine and 3 points? I’ll gladly take that. I’m concerned mainly as the excess is more than 50% over, my letter mentions possible prosecution and court - hopefully this only applies if I refuse to accept responsibility and contest it? (Obviously I won’t contest and am fully expecting to take the consequences but am uncertain about what they may be?)

I have a clean license and have been driving for 23 years - does that have any bearing?

You're too far over for a speed awareness course so minimum will be points and fine, how much that will be i wouldn't like to guess

Yes I am aware I won’t be eligible for a speed awareness course

I think the fine might be a percentage of income now rather than a flat £50?

Dragonsandcats · 07/07/2023 22:13

Sorry £100

I think it may be 75%-125% of weekly earnings and points. I don’t think it’s likely you’ll be prosecuted.

Side note (and no offence to you OP, totally understand your circumstances and remorse!) But how ridiculous is it that people can be going TOO FAST for the speed awareness course?! Surely most of these people are the ones that need it the most!!!!!! Plus the fine and points!!

I think it's too far in excess of the speed limit for a fixed penalty notice. At anything over 40mph in a 30 speed limit, It's likely that you will be summoned to court where you can expect to receive 4-6 points (or a short disqualification period) and a fine for 75-125% of your weekly income.
