Temp work situation

QWE96 · 07/07/2023 07:10

For context, I've been doing temp work with various agencies.

I was booked into a supply teaching post yesterday, which I have the confirmation for, and was turned away by the school - apparently they didn't need anyone. I arrived at 8am, had arranged paid childcare, and wasted unnecessary petrol. Turns out, it was a mix up by the agency.

They're now refusing to pay me. AIBU to think they should at least pay something given that I turned up to work where they told me to be and it was too late to arrange other work by that point?

What does the contract say about cancellations ? Usually they pay if less than 24 hours notice,

Yes I would push to get paid

What does your contract say?

Dotjones · 07/07/2023 08:17

Check your contract, it probably has a clause that allows them to not pay you in these circumstances. Do you get paid by the day or by the hour? If by the hour they'd probably only pay the absolute minimum unit, 0.25 hours in my experience. But your contract will explain what rights you have.

I would press them to pay me but most importantly I’d find another agency.
