Neighbour smoking weed

Pushmepullu · 06/07/2023 20:14

Don’t know where to post this…

My DC downstairs neighbour smokes weed on his balcony. Over the past couple of weeks this has increased considerably to the point DC flat smells of weed. He now has to keep his windows closed. WWYD?

Report to police
speak to neighbour (never met before)
note through the door, anonymously?
report to management company, who will tell neighbour who reported him

Not really sure there’s anything he can do but hoping someone will come up with a wise solution.

I would just speak to them

potentialmediator · 06/07/2023 20:32

Just speak to them or a polite note saying smoke is travelling into DC’s flat and could the neighbour be considerate. Don’t have to mention it’s weed. I can’t see you can force the issue

Stellastag · 06/07/2023 20:49

Just speak to the person don’t be a grass!!!

Jibo · 06/07/2023 20:54

Does the smoker rent or own? I'd try a note through the door but be prepared for it not to work. Best approach will be a written complaint to the management company, including dates and times when you have observed the smoking. They will be in breach of their lease by doing this.

I thought people only spoke like this on shows like shameless.

Summer2424 · 06/07/2023 21:32

Hi @Pushmepullu i think i would report it to the management company.
Hope this gets sorted soon.

Pushmepullu · 07/07/2023 17:28

Thank you all for your replies.
I’ve advised to speak to neighbour and not mention the weed. If he doesn’t stop or at least reduce how much he is smoking outside then to speak to management company.

It was a joke!! Lighten up!! Smoking weed/grass!!! Ha ha ha get it?!

Northernsouloldies · 08/07/2023 01:35

I don't smoke now, hash has a nice smell to it. Weed just stinks.

TrustThePlan · 08/07/2023 01:39

I absolutely hate the smell of weed when I'm out in town, which has become more common the last few years. What I would say is, maybe mention this to them to see if they can either cut it out entirely or limit the smoke wafting to you.

Given the pollen and other irritants this spring and summer, I've invested in a good couple of air purifiers which I wish I had during lockdown. These should be able to deal with pollutants like smoke among other things.

I recommend the DH Lifelabs Sciaire which has a HEPA H13 and active carbon filter, along with a cold plasma system for better deodorising and disinfection.

Don’t be such a fool as to repeat terms like this. It's vile. She's well within her rights to report as per the law and bloody common decency. Every time someone calls someone a "grass" it's akin to saying "I'm the same kind of scumbag you'd moan about so shut up because I said so" Hmm

Gingerkittykat · 08/07/2023 02:39

The police won't care about somebody smoking a joint on their balcony. The best approach would be to try and speak to the neighbour or go to the management company.

ClareBlue · 08/07/2023 02:46

Concensus is an illegal activity is best ignored and not reported. Do the same when you hear domestic abuse.
It's only weed (domestic).

The police have no caring needs what so ever. They enforce the law

Exactly.
It's fine to say don't grass until the police are investigating your granny being robbed.

mulberrybag · 08/07/2023 02:54

The grass post was a JOKE, the poster has already clarified above

They don't enforce laws when individuals are smoking dope.

I've seen the police walk through clouds of cannabis smoke from teenagers smoking outside a supermarket without saying a thing to them let alone take enforcement action.

What action do you think they should take?

araiwa · 08/07/2023 02:59

Police don't even go out to burglaries, not sure they have the ability or inclination to go to someone smoking a spliff

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 08/07/2023 03:17

Disgusted by people suggesting they should take it straight to the management company, not bother talking to the neighbour first, and that the person must be in breach of their tenancy/ leasehold. Not necessarily true, and it if was, and led to them being made homeless, do you really think that's the best and most proportionate response?!

Stellastag · 08/07/2023 12:42

It was a joke stop being so anal!! Smoking weed smoking grass!!!! Geez why are people so uptight!! Maybe go smoke something yourself and lighten up!!

Roundandnour · 08/07/2023 12:55

I would have a word with the neighbour and suggest either they go down the legal prescription if they haven’t already or try the also legal cbd flowers. That not everyone is tolerant
