to think my sister and her husband can buy their daughter whatever she wants and they're prepared to pay for for her 18th?

Ok, so following on from the previous tiffanys cufflink thread out there I'm slightly annoyed with brother and sil on my sister's behalf. Her DD was 18 recently and she got a lovely tiffany mark quartz watch for her 18th, yes it was extravagant but its up to her and her dd what she gets isn't it? They're financially comfortable etc so...
Brother and SIL have made three or 4 rude remarks about spoiling her, it being unecessarily expensive etc and clearly making dn uncomfortable.
I know its not my place to say anything but its bloody annoying!

Let me get this straight, your sister bought her daughter a nice present for her 18th and now your brother and his wife feel they have a right to comment about it and make the 18yr old feel awkward?

It might not be your place to say but it's not theirs either and Im afraid I'm of the opinion whats good for the goose is good for the gander so if I was there I'd probably tell them to STFU and mind their own business.

Mercy · 24/02/2008 16:12

Do your brother/sister/SIL get on generally speaking or is there some antagonism?

how horrible for your niece! i had a posh piece of jewellery for my 18th and was so chuffed, in fact i barely ever wear it because its so special.

IamTheSpeedingHam · 24/02/2008 16:20

this is the best

viggoswife · 24/02/2008 16:32

I like the first one best IamTheSpeedingHam. Now I just need someone to send it to.

OP YANBU. I might be teeny bit jealous because I WANT ONE! but I would be really glad for my niece more and think her mum was lovely for buying it for her.

My bil is like this. I hate the 'well for you' comments. Dh and I both work hard and what we want to spend our money on is our business.
They sound jealous and should not be making comments to your dn.
