Hi everyone, help me settle a hot debate please! (I know, it's all excitement today!)
TLDR: If someone recommends a tradesman, and something goes wrong, would you expect them to follow up on your behalf?
A cousin recommended a tradesman to me, who came and did an expensive job on the house, which has caused a significant damp problem in part of it.
Tradesman came around, saw it was a duff job and promised to be back the next day to fix it. Low and behold 6 weeks later and multiple reminders, it is still not fixed.
Will cost about £300 to get it sorted by someone else, which I am considering because I really need to get it sorted.
Other family member thinks I should mention it to cousin in case they can chase tradesman for me.
I don't think cousin should be asked to do anything despite it being their recommendation. If I made a recommendation, I might like to know it was a duff and not to recommend them again but wouldn't expect to contact the tradesman and a bit baffled family member thinks I should.
(I know, none of their business and I will go down route of getting someone else in, just baffled someone would think this!)
AIBU yes if you make a recommendation, expect to be asked to follow it up if there's an issue
AINBU No, if you make a recommendation, that's the end of your involvement in the matter
