To get rid of Amazon prime membership

Has anyone else got rid? I think it was costing me more actually. I suppose I will just have to wait for delivery as opposed to getting it the next day. I don't know why I feel so sad about it!! 😂😂

I've never had amazon prime and dont intend to ever get it.

I live without it totally fine, and often by the exact same items for less on eBay because their fees to their buisnesses are less than amazon so the same stuff costs less.

I then get top cash back on my eBay purchases as well

milkydress · 05/07/2023 21:45

@nannyl thank you! I will look at eBay!

Yes, we've binned prime off, due to the price increased. We rarely used the streaming, so it's just the delivery we now miss.

evrey · 05/07/2023 21:47

Amazon prime is no longer next day delivery as so many private sellers are on there now. Imo not worth it.

IchWill · 05/07/2023 21:48

It's gone massively down hill. Countless times I've ordered specific item over other same / similar items because it says Prime delivery before 1pm next day.

In the morning I check and the delivery time has moved back a day or two. How it's legal to advertise like that and not deliver on promise is baffling.

henrypenry · 05/07/2023 21:48

It's a waste of money

henrypenry · 05/07/2023 21:48

Things are often cheaper elsewhere & the streaming offer is shite

noglow · 05/07/2023 21:48

Loads of my standard amazon stuff comes next day or day after anyway

ContractQuestion · 05/07/2023 21:50

Do you remember years ago we could opt for non next-day delivery and get some money off.

Now It isn't next day at all. And often costs cheaper on non prime options on top of the annual fee....

But I've got so used to it now!

HermioneWeasley · 05/07/2023 21:50

Yes. No doubt I will be lured back to paying it to save on delivery costs at some point, but they’ve offered me a 30 day free trial which I took up and will cancel when it’s done.

Sadlysadsad · 05/07/2023 21:51

I recently got rid of mine and I don’t feel the miss of it.
I found that all the good films on there needed paying for and every time I downloaded music it was almost immediately moved to the expensive music section.
I was fed up of buying stuff on Prime only to discover that it wasn’t next day, it’s was going to be several days later.

Now I have to buy £25 worth of stuff to get free delivery which tbh stops me impulse buying crap, because if it’s got £4.99 delivery attached or I need to buy another X amount of stuff to hit £25 then I generally talk myself out of it.

They shot themselves on the foot putting prices up, but still expecting you to pay more to get what used to be included!

milkydress · 05/07/2023 21:51

@evrey yes! I've noticed that I don't actually get next day deliveries!

SocksAndTheCity · 05/07/2023 21:53

I've never paid for it and I don't buy much on Amazon, but I've taken the occasional free trial month for the films and TV. I also found that most of what I wanted to watch cost extra, which is a pisstake when people are already paying IMO.

I've just cancelled Netflix too now I've got through Black Mirror. Plenty on iplayer and the Channel 4 one.

DeathMetalMum · 05/07/2023 21:55

We have. Only have it in the run up to Christmas and over Christmas when they have the football. So three months max. We watch all series and films during that time. Then switch to a different streaming service.

Same here. I had Prime a few years ago and always had reliable next day delivery.
A couple of years ago it became less reliable so I stopped it then.
Occasionally I take advantage of the free trials of Prime to get free delivery but the reliability issues haven't improved.

This 👆

I have had this experience. Nothing ever arrives next day anymore, so totally pointless. Amazon video is shit too, so not any form of enticement either.

CandyLeBonBon · 05/07/2023 22:09

I get very reliable next day delivery. And I use it a lot. So it's a winner for me.

thinandsparse · 05/07/2023 22:19

I've binned it. I only really used it for deliveries so note I buy less! My local supermarket has started up as a free collection base so I can still get the free deliveries when I want them - just without the monthly price tag!

Beautiful3 · 05/07/2023 22:24

Yes I've cancelled mine last month. It wasn't worth it for me.

milkydress · 05/07/2023 22:29

@thinandsparse is delivery free if you have items delivered to a pick up location? I didn't know that!

My last annual subscription ran out beginning of April and I cancelled before it automatically renewed. Since they completely ruined the music app and the quality of Prime video is so shabby, the only thing I expected to struggle with was the delivery convenience. But like PPs I've discovered it makes me buy far less impulsively and much less frequently, plus I've become more prepared to wait and go to actual shops for some things, which makes me feel really ethical 😇😄 There are still a couple of things I do subscribe and save on, but they don't charge me postage for those even if they're under the £25, so that's a bonus. The one aspect I'd say I've struggled a bit with is the ease of sending birthday gifts to people through Prime, but again, it has actually only made me put more effort in.

Not going back, even though they keep offering me a free 30 days. I'm over the hump of the initial withdrawals so it would feel wrong to risk getting sucked in again!

Canyousewcushions · 05/07/2023 23:00

I only get it when it's a free trial.

I have noticed though that I spend way more when I have prime as its so easy to click click click and then stuff arrives but it's all impulse bought. If I'm "saving up" items to get over the free delivery threshold I'm much more likely to change my mind and remove stuff I don't really need from my basket again once ive thoight about it. So it's definitely better for my bank balance not to have it - saves me way more than just the prime fees 🤣

luckylavender · 05/07/2023 23:01

Never had it. I try to use Amazon as little as possible.

HouseIsOnFire · 05/07/2023 23:06

For those complaining about unreliable delivery times, are you using buy it now on your phone?

I was struggling with it too then realised when you hit buy it now and are on tge address page, you need to scroll down and make sure right delivery date is chosen, mine kept defaulting away from next day, but now I make sure to confirm it each time I'm rarely let down.

For me it's worth it because I don't want to spend weekends trudging around shops and do a lot of diy where I don't want to wait, but that could change depending how much more expensive they've made it!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 05/07/2023 23:06

We have decided to stop. We no longer seem to watch prime video - or what we want to watch has advert or needs additional payment. As for delivery… we haven’t been able to get next day since we moved into town, and the quality of products has plummeted. If you ask Dh, it’s not been the same since they did away with the free packets of haribo in every order.
