MUMSNET HELP! Jelly Cat Kangaroo

JellyCatKangaroo · 05/07/2023 20:32

IABU asking but I've heard how good mumsnet is at this kind of thing. Has anyone got a spare baby jelly cat kangaroo they could let us have? I doubt we can locate the original. I'm Happy to pay p&p etc.

A precious jelly cat baby kangaroo has skipped off and is missing in Yorkshire when it should be back home in Scandinavia with it's loving distraught owner! Photos attached. Story below.

Family visited me from abroad for a long family weekend after I'd been extremely ill - itt was fantastic and just what I needed.

But, a very busy parent trying to keep the little ones safe whilst juggling suitcase, kiddies backpacks, her back pack and getting on the train and back to the airport lost sight of baby kangaroo.

I notified lost property immediately and have been down I think person less than 24h after and they've been useless.

Can anyone help?

@JellyCatKangaroo There’s a few on Vinted, if you don’t want to buy new.

Lougle · 05/07/2023 22:07

@JellyCatKangaroo tagging you so you see my post above.

RudsyFarmer · 05/07/2023 22:15

I think the OP wants someone to just give her the baby kangaroo . She has no interest in buying it.

Sweetashunni · 05/07/2023 22:18

She probably cannot afford to splurge £16 on a small soft toy, she was just hoping somebody feeling a bit kind may have one lying about that they wouldn’t mind sending. And I think you all know this.

There is one on Ebay, current bid is £10.00 and there’s just over an hour left.

My daughter bid but didn't win (a d would have had to pay VATas buying from the EU - worked out too expensive with Ovedseas postage too as they only need the baby kangaroo. Thank you for helping though

If you can’t afford it surely the parents can just buy her the new one? They’ve just gone abroad but can’t pay the money to replace the most beloved toy?

Gosh!! I'm not, going to explain our family finances to anyone on here.

I asked nicely and politely fir help. If you can't say anything helpful does it feel good, or big to have a nasty dig?

I don't think anyone will give you just the baby?

That isn't what I asked for. I said I would pay.

There are quite a few Karas without the Joey, so it's a common problem, I think.

That probably explains why I couldn't find just the baby anywhere, thank you

You're just being nasty

Actually you said "Has anyone got a spare baby jelly cat kangaroo they could let us have? I doubt we can locate the original. I'm Happy to pay p&p etc."

So yes you want to guilt some one into giving it fro free and only pay P&P.

Sorry MN is not for begging, people offered to help you to find one to buy but that's not what your asking.

It’s a fucking soft toy, she didn’t ask for someone to donate an organ. If I had it lying around I would be more than happy to do a little favour, and hope somehow the karma would come back to me one day. What’s wrong with you people?

Well this is AIBU and not a begging forum so there is that. So how about you take your little posts and direct the OP to the appropriate section for begging.

Lougle · 06/07/2023 06:36

To be fair, it became very clear, very early on, that @JellyCatKangaroo was hoping that someone would have a premium plush soft toy one 'lying around', which is fairly unrealistic when they are selling for upwards of £30 second hand. When people gave lots of options, the OP said 'I'm not able to buy it.'

Fair enough, but it did then confirm that the OP was only interested in solutions where a poster offered to send a 'spare' toy for p&p.

Threads from the past have involved posters asking where they can find a toy that has usually gone out of stock, rather than just asking for donations.

There was literally nothing nasty in my post. Many people sent you links for various options for the toy. MN isn’t really the place to post asking for random things for free if that’s what you really wanted.
So the answer is yes YABU to ask someone to give you a toy for free.

Would you not have been able to bid and pay, avoiding the VAT, then send it? A little Joey would fit in an envelope, especially if you vacuum packed it.

Ah yeah sorry usually these threads are people wanting to find a replacement for something that's out of stock so I mistook it as that which is why I got excited for OP when I saw loads available to buy.

NomadicNarwhal · 06/07/2023 07:16

@JellyCatKangaroo OP we have one - we are away until next week.

DM me the address and I'll post it with a little story of Joey's whereabouts over the last few days.

I'm sorry you are unwell, it's truly awful to lose a toy, and it's hard to juggle young children and belongings when you are leaving an unwell parent.

Horray! Free kangaroo has been located! Nice one @NomadicNarwhal

NomadicNarwhal · 06/07/2023 07:18

@Lougle - the OP is unwell, potentially unable to work, and it's completely natural for people to ask for a spare, or use donations, second hand, free stuff with kids.

Hell parenting facebook groups would be very quiet if it wasn't for the traffic from donating baby and kid goods.

Can you honestly say all of your kid products have been brought brand spanking new? If not, you are a huge hypocrite. The OP offered to pay expenses to the individual...

JMSA · 06/07/2023 07:18

Actually, MN is very much the place to ask if someone has a replacement for a much loved soft toy.

I've sent one to a poster before, complete with photos explaining where he's been and of him having a bath to explain the cleanness.

Not everyone is grumpy and nasty.

I'm no hypocrite. I was stating that, IMO, the OP was very clear that she was not looking for where to 'find' one, which is often the case with such threads, but looking for someone to send her one. She was completely transparent about it. I thought it was a bit unrealistic, but as @NomadicNarwhal has volunteered to send her one, all's well that ends well.
