To not wait any longer?

Got an email yesterday asking me to come in for a job interview at 10am today.

Arrived on time. Been sat in the waiting room for 30 mins. One glass of water. Told things are running over but no apology.

Weird feeling just want to walk out. AIBU?

I would be walking out by now.

ChocBananaSmoothie · 04/07/2023 10:55

No, you have other work commitments, it's reasonable to leave. If they want to reschedule they should do it on your terms.

Kingsparkle · 04/07/2023 10:55

If they write you off for not being prepared to wait for an unspecified amount of time without asking they reschedule, they are not a good company to work for.

fruitbrewhaha · 04/07/2023 10:55

Goodness how rude of them. Have they not even told you why you’ve been kept waiting? Tell them you have to go and if they would like to reschedule it will have to be at a time that suits you.

AtTheZoo · 04/07/2023 10:56

The receptionists are baffled. They've just messaged the panel and got message back saying "running over. Sorry". If they had another person at 9am and they're still interviewing them at 11?? I mean. WTF. I was up all night cramming for this. I feel a bit of rage but that's probably totally overboard

If its on purpose i absolutely do not want to work here

How did you get on OP?

MimiArm · 04/07/2023 10:56

... and I'd also only considering going back again if I received an apology from the interviewer over the course of today.

TheActualDevil · 04/07/2023 10:57

It would be a poor reflection on you if you were over half an hour late for an interview, especially if your excuse was just I got delayed.’ I doubt you’d get the job if you did that. I actually think you’re right, if you don’t need the job and you’re not that bothered about it then walk. Their time is not more valuable than yours, although they clearly think it is.

AND agreed to work the rescheduled interview around what suited me eg video at lunchtime / evening / early morning

MimiArm · 04/07/2023 10:58

F that ... deffo leave

JulieHoney · 04/07/2023 11:00

Yes, just leave. Keeping you waiting for an hour is rude and disrespectful.

If they’re overrunning an hour with the previous candidate, I think that candidate has bagged the job already.

Kingsparkle · 04/07/2023 11:07

I was going to say that @JulieHoney - sounds like they hit it off with the first interviewee.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/07/2023 11:10

What a shit organisation to leave you waiting for so long. 30 mins cos they’ve had an urgent client thing come up, fine. One hour cos they’re interviewing others, not fine

MimiArm · 04/07/2023 11:14

They might not have been interviewing another candidate. They could be dealing with something else. Or they could have left the previous person waiting 45 minutes before you arrived.

Regardless of the reason, it's rude. One of the panel popping out to profusely apologise would have softened it somewhat but a message "running over ... sorry" doesn't cut it.

Also, they didn't give you much notice of the interview either.

LadyDanburysHat · 04/07/2023 11:17

Less than 24 hours notice for the interview and then messing you around like this. I would be leaving.

ilovemydogmore · 04/07/2023 11:26

I'd leave after an hour. Not the kind of organisation you'd want to work for. Respecting time is so important.

pinksheetss · 04/07/2023 11:30

I'd have left by now also - hope you have too OP!

OhComeOnFFS · 04/07/2023 11:31

Is it a big company or a small one?

GlitteryGreen · 04/07/2023 11:32

I think I would leave, you have waited an hour. I'd just apologise to the receptionist and say you really need to get back to work, and leave it at that. They will contact you and explain properly if they're a decent organisation.

ZickZack · 04/07/2023 11:33

Ugh I'd be annoyed at this

NoSquirrels · 04/07/2023 11:34

Hope you left, OP!

NeedToThinkOfOne · 04/07/2023 11:34

24 hours notice and then leaving you waiting for so long…something is definitely off. Preferred candidate in first thing and you as back up, hence the late notice?
Have you left OP?

Carpediemmakeitcount · 04/07/2023 11:35

Bump

once you get home send an email .
either restate you couldn’t wait as you had personal commitments but would like them to rearrange at a time convenient to you, given the time you had already committed on the day when they overran

or
write to them that you were extremely frustrated and disappointed in their attitude towards the interview. That waiting an hour and still no interview is unreasonable and you therefore want expenses for your wasted time

🤷🏼‍♀️
Imho I expect someone screwed up, forgot to book out interviewers time, or someone called in sick. But they should have treated you better, a profuse apology, regular updates, a hot drink AND a biscuit . And an option of whether you would prefer to reschedule completely, come back later that day, or wait it out. Totally disrespectful of your time - arrogant twats. But that arrogant twat may not be someone who you would have anything to do with, or the company culture. Could just be one arrogant twat inHr covering their arse for screwing up.

Floralnomad · 04/07/2023 11:38

I’d have told the receptionists at the 30 minute mark that I can only wait another few minutes as I had other appointments to keep
