Unreasonable to be embarrassed?

37 weeks pregnant and I had reduced l movements today (Luckily all fine.) Rang up and it was recommended I come in which I did. I was obviously a bit worried so went straight there. I was wearing a maternity jumpsuit and no bra. So had to sit naked from the waist up while I was monitored. Midwives were really nice but just a bit worried they will be sniggering about it now.

YABU - don’t be daft they’ve seen it all before.

YANBU - they had a laugh at your expense!

They won’t have been bothered but I would have been embarrassed too.

Did you not get any blue roll or anything to cover up a bit?

Didimakeanarseofmyself · 03/07/2023 22:18

No. It was very cringey. I should have got changed but just didn’t think Blush

Honestly just don’t worry. Midwives are great. I shat on my own foot in Labour and my wife for didn’t even blink lol.

Tinkietot · 03/07/2023 22:19

My sisters a midwife and they see it all. Honestly she says a vagina is just like seeing a hand nowadays. People get topless for water births, skin to skin and breastfeeding. I promise they weren’t bothered at all and probably felt bad that you were uncomfortable

FionnulaTheCooler · 03/07/2023 22:19

I really doubt they will be having a laugh at your expense. Midwives are well acquainted with every part of the female body and they won't have batted an eyelid at seeing your boobs.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/07/2023 22:19

Is this your first?

JMSA · 03/07/2023 22:19

YABU in the nicest way, as per your poll! I'm glad everything was ok Smile

Tunnocks34 · 03/07/2023 22:19

Midwife not wife lol.

FOJN · 03/07/2023 22:20

I'm surprised they didn't offer you a gown or towel and even more surprised you didn't ask. Why would you sit there feeling mortified and ignoring the elephant in the room?

I'm sure they weren't bothered in the slightest.

Daffodil92 · 03/07/2023 22:20

😂 sorry OP the imagery of this made me chuckle!
They won’t have given a toss. Seen it all before. I promise. Glad everything is ok 😊

Cottoncandysticks · 03/07/2023 22:23

Midwives have seen more boobs than you’ve had hot dinners, they spend a good part of their day looking up peoples Vaginas aswell and dodging body fluids. It’s absolutely a non issue. I promise.

SemperIdem · 03/07/2023 22:24

Well, they could have offered you something to cover up with, and I totally get why you feel a bit embarrassed.

However - they will only have cared about being able to be sure the baby was ok so it possibly didn’t occur to them to offer. They absolutely have seen it all before and won’t be laughing about you.

I remember being so mortified and cross with myself for not thinking to bring a vest top to wear when having a water birth. In full blown labour, worrying the midwife would be weird about seeing my boobs 🤦🏻‍♀️

While I don’t wish to bring down a lighthearted thread, because I thought there might be something seriously wrong with my baby.

I can laugh at myself now but obviously at the time ‘twas a tad different.

Thanks for reassurance re midwives. You are all saints and I want to leave you all something in my will.

Oh bless you I've ended up being monitored in my knickers with my dress hoiked around my waist because I've forgotten the logistics of being monitored in the panic to get baby checked. Was it embarrassing for you? Have the midwives seen it all and more before? Yep.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, I'm 38 weeks the end is in sight 😁

LaviniasBigBloomers · 03/07/2023 22:26

I'm really glad that your baby is ok, and am actually quite cross that no-one thought about your dignity and offered you a gown! It doesn't really matter that they midwives have 'seen it all before' - what matters is the patient who probably hasn't been in that situation too many times!

However, the main thing is that baby is OK.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 03/07/2023 22:27

The midwives won't have cared but I'm would have been mortified. Having said that I wouldn't leave the house without a bra.

Also I'm sure much worse to come in labour....pooping that baby out!

Yes, sorry. Really glad everything is OK.

Curseofthenation · 03/07/2023 22:39

Consider getting your boobs out as a practice run for labour. I had approx. 10 people in the room looking at my fanjo when my DS was born. Good times 😅

I understand feeling awkward mind, but as others have said, you have no need to worry about what the midwives think.

Didimakeanarseofmyself · 03/07/2023 22:41

Weirdly, I think if I’d had something on top and people looking up my … skirts Blush it would not have felt quite so bad! I felt so EXPOSED! Still, it does not matter Grin

ButterCrackers · 03/07/2023 22:45

They could have offered you a towel or bedsheet to cover up. Feeling at ease is important.

Hankunamatata · 03/07/2023 22:48

You think they would have offered a sheet or something. But no they won't care. I gave birth naked each time and didn't even realise MW was wiping poo away (thanks dh for telling me)

AdoraBell · 03/07/2023 22:49

I voted YABU because they will have seen everything before and they were probably too busy to look at boobs.

However, YANBU because many of us would be embarrassed.

LakeTiticaca · 03/07/2023 23:02

Boobs, bums and fadges, they've seen it all. They won't be laughing!!
