5 seater car which has 5 'real' seats?

We're looking for a hybrid, fairly decent size, in which we can do long journeys. But it must seat five adults comfortably for long runs.

The ones we've looked at so far have a really vestigial middle seat in the back, without the cushy padding of the 'outside' seats - and very narrow. To say nothing of the transmssion 'hump' affecting where feet can go.

Has anyone got something three adults could truly occupy the rear of for more than a short journey?

My husband has a VW Arteon, which by our reckoning, is the near best car in terms of being wide enough for the middle seat to accommodate 3 adults fairly comfortably.

We don't have a hybrid though, as it's a diesel engine. Plus, we also have 3 children, two of whom are under 6 so still in car seats and are fairly small proportion-wise too.

But our eldest daughter is the same size as an adult and she could be ok in between both car seats I think, although only for a short distance.

Some suggestions here?
