A (supposedly) good friend and I were going to a gig last night. I've had tickets for a few months now and she agreed to come when I bought the tickets. But no money ever came my way, mainly because she's a friend and thought it'd get sorted tonight.

Fast forward to yesterday and she messaged me to say that the gig wasn't what she thought so dropped out. Just like that and even had the cheek to think that it might not be for me and we should both duck out. Er no, I got tickets as I wanted to go. She had months to work out whether it was 'what she thought' and could've given me time to find someone else to come. I'm totally miffed that she's not even apologised for leaving me in the lurch.

As it turned out, my OH came and we had an absolute blast so was ok but AIBU to be totally pissed with my friend?

YANBU. That's a terrible thing to do to a friend, very flakey to cancel at the last minute, and even worse to not pay you for the ticket.

AuntMarch · 02/07/2023 11:48

Absolutely YANBU.
I couldn't let that go without saying something either. I won't be a mug!

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 02/07/2023 12:06

YANBU. I wouldn't be making any effort with her going forward.

She is not a friend.

She is also extraordinarily rude.

I would be telling her how rude she is and I wouldn't call her again.

She couldn't care less about you.

Great that you had a good night.

I would say it was probably never likely she intended to go.

Ugh I hate people who cancel last minute. Unless someone has died or you've broken a leg a commitment is a commitment.
