They ate my cake (lighthearted)

Was working yesterday. Single parent so dropped DD, aged 9 and some cakes I’d bought at the farmers market at my friends. Told my friend that 1 specific cake was for me, I wanted that one, but they had free choice over the other 3.

They ate my cake! They left me the brownie that no-one wanted.

Would IBUR to take a replacement out of DDs pocket money?

Obviously light-hearted, I’m more miffed than genuinely upset. My friend provides free childcare for me which saves me so much money so I can’t really moan.

I literally can’t imagine saying to my friends “I WANT THAT one” when I drop off some cakes. Unfathomable!

Fiddlesticks82 · 02/07/2023 10:00

Why didn’t you get 4 of the cakes that you obviously think is heaven on earth?!

oh it gets better! 😂

Exactly. I am embarrassed for you @CakeThief.

Trainsplanesandfeet · 02/07/2023 10:02

I think I’d you turned up with cakes and said don’t eat that one it’s for me I would be tempted to eat that one first!

why didn’t you take it with you if it was that precious?

and the comment your friend does loads of free childcare for you makes your behaviour even worse! Buy that woman the best cake FFs!!

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 02/07/2023 10:03

Seriously?! 😂

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 02/07/2023 10:03

If you wanted 1 particular cake for yourself you should have asked the stall left to put it in a separate bag and left it in the car/your bag rather than take it to your friends.

Also, if you knew no one would likely want the brownie, why on earth buy one? DH likes brownies so, whenever my favourite cake lady has a box I like the look of (once every couple of months) and there are a couple of brownies in it, I know he will enjoy them; if the majority of what’s in the box is brownie based then I give it a miss as I don’t like them!

WimpoleHat · 02/07/2023 10:04

If you wanted one that was “yours”, you shouldn’t have taken it in. It’s pretty rude to take something, ostensibly as a gift, and then say “that one’s mine”. They probably weren’t paying attention and got mixed up - or one of the kids just leapt in and ate it.

Changeforachange · 02/07/2023 10:04

Basic error.
Just buy 4x the cake you wanted.
Nobody wants a brownie if there's proper cake to be had.

YeahIsaidit · 02/07/2023 10:06

Ah that's a bit disappointing but you're right you can't really get miffed. In future take the one you want out of the box before you drop em off!

Fiddlesticks82 · 02/07/2023 10:06

Everyone is missing this friend provides the OP with FREE CHILDCARE!!

I'd prefer the brownie...

Rashorbite · 02/07/2023 10:08

Yeah I’m in the camp of: if you wanted it you should have taken it with you.

Oblomov23 · 02/07/2023 10:10

Either don't take it in, or put it in a separate bag and make it clear that is not to be eaten. If you made it clear, then she's taking the piss.

spiralstrawberry · 02/07/2023 10:44

Isn't it an unwritten rule you don't leave cake anywhere unsupervised if you don't want it eaten...

EarthlyNightshade · 02/07/2023 10:47

Did you not have anywhere else to leave the cake?

Why would you take the money from DD, did she know it was your cake?

(also, what was it, then we can better judge?)

garfieldeatscake · 02/07/2023 10:48

Buy more cakes next time....or buy all the same type.

I don't see the relevance of this, OP wants to take the money from her DD pocket money.

Avondale89 · 02/07/2023 10:50

Yes, it would be unreasonable to take it out of your DD’s pocket money. Wtf? Take the cake with you next time if you’re going to get that upset about it.

That was a joke

but feeling miffed with her friend wasn’t a joke

TroysMammy · 02/07/2023 10:54

You should have let them see you lick the cake you wanted before leaving it for later.

Meeting · 02/07/2023 10:55

Wow I can't believe you'd actually take the money from your 9 year old for this.

lap90 · 02/07/2023 10:59

Don't embarrass yourself.

I thought that was the AIBU.

Readyplayerthr33 · 02/07/2023 11:09

You can’t drop off cakes and then say that they have to leave a specific one for you. She is providing free childcare, she has the wrangle the kids all day. And now you want her telling them that they can’t choose a certain cake? That’s just a pain in the ass and stupid.
Buy a cake for yourself and take it away with you. Don’t drop it at hers and tell her she can’t have it.
