Polyjuice Potion Inconsistencies

So.

Why does fake Mad Eye Moody sound like the real Mad Eye in Goblet of Fire but anytime anyone else uses poly juice potion they keep their original voice rendering the disguise completely ridiculous?

Currently have a sick child attached to me and my mind has wandered.

I assume fake Mad Eye was putting on an accent to sound like the real one?

bookworm14 · 01/07/2023 14:51

It’s best not to scrutinise the plot of Goblet of Fire too closely to be honest. Nothing about it makes any sense.

RoomOfRequirement · 01/07/2023 14:52

He was just putting on the Moody voice. He was much more of a 'professional' than the 3 12 year olds. Not an inconsistency.

That’s some next-level voice talent though?!

They fake the accent of the person they have copied - Harry and Ron practice sounding more like Crabbe and Goyle

Readyplayerthr33 · 01/07/2023 14:55

Maybe there is another spell or charm to change your voice and the kids just didn’t know about it?

Skinnermarink · 01/07/2023 14:56

TGOF is a weird one, no one is themselves in it 😂 in the book you have this Dumbledore:

’did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire Harry?’ Dumbledore asked calmly.

Film Dumbledore:

(leaps clean across room) ‘DIDYEPUTYOURNAMEINTHEGOBLETOFFIREHARRY??????????’ Dumbledore roared.

With magic I feel you could explain away anything though. A silly voice changing incantation or something on top of the polyjuice.

The one that gets me most is the time turner. Why aren't they using it all the time to undo crimes and deaths and things.

Because there are strict rules about the use of time turners.

Yeah a school child is allowed to use it to get to extra lessons 😂

BertieBotts · 01/07/2023 15:18

In the books they talked with the person's voice who they transformed into. Harry answers a question from Ron and is surprised to hear a deep voice coming from himself.

In the film I think it's just a cinematic device to show that we know who they really are. Other people hear the voice of the person they are transformed into.

We don't hear Barty Crouch Jr's voice for mad eye because the audience isn't aware of who he really is.

That’s what I thought! They’re ‘supposed’ to sound like the person and then it all went Pete Tong when they ‘forgot’ for when the kids used it.

Hmmmm. I could kind of buy ‘cinematic device’ if feeling generous.

I find inconsistent use of Time Turners much more annoying.

sparkellie · 01/07/2023 15:23

This sort of thing is why I hate film adaptations!
