To think this is an absurd quote

AIBU to think this quote to cut grass is ridiculous.
We live in norfolk and have around half an acre so it's a fairly large amount of grass cutting but not a huge amount.
A local guy normally does it for us on his ride on mower for about £30, it's not done to perfection, we don't need that as we have dogs and children who play football we just need it kept short.
Guy today has just sent me his quote for £125!

To be honest £125 sounds much more what I would expect to pay to have 1/2 acre mowed than £30!

Get your own ride on mower.

Pickle2023 · 30/06/2023 21:24

Sorry meant to say guy that normally does it for £30 is away for 3 weeks so I thought would get it done as it's getting too long.

I'm not up for getting my own mower, I don't have the time to do it

I really do think £125 is a joke though

I'm surprised he can afford to go anywhere beyond a day trip to Clacton Grin

Cramlington567 · 30/06/2023 21:35

Get a robot mower.

pinguins · 30/06/2023 21:37

I would expect to pay £30 to get a normal sized garden mowed. Half an acre should cost a bit more. Not sure I'd pay £125 though either.

Daffodilwoman · 30/06/2023 21:40

I think £30 for half an acre is an absolute bargain. I wouldn’t pay £125 though, more like £60.

😂 it's not his full time job he just does ours when he does his so more of a favour so I don't expect someone else to charge only £30 but wasn't expecting £125 either

I think £125 is more appropriate than £30. I'd be giving your normal guy a payrise.

mynewusername2023 · 30/06/2023 21:45

Is the £125 also for a ride on mower? If so that's pricey but reasonable for a push mower.

cheapskatemum · 30/06/2023 21:50

I'm on the Norfolk Suffolk border & pay £40 for 1.5 acres to be cut on a ride on mower. I wouldn't be paying £125 for half an acre either! I guess these things are regional.

Name checks out Grin

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

GoodChat · 30/06/2023 22:01

I vote you get your own ride on mower. It'll take you next to no time.

Borborygmus · 30/06/2023 22:02

How long does it take the £30 local guy to do the job?

orangeflags · 30/06/2023 22:13

£125? What's he using? Toenail scissors???

On his ride on about an hour max, and it goes over it twice so he makes sure all the grass cuttings are collected in the box

I know right! More I think about it the more I think it's a total joke

£125 is just plain greedy. If the guys bringing his on sit on mower and using his own fuel I'd expect to pay around £50-60.

Pickle2023 · 30/06/2023 23:15

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's way too much. I'll text him back and say thanks but no thanks
