To think posters who don't respond to the thread they started are rude?

I'm getting increasingly fed up with replying to posters who ask for advice and then never return to the thread to thank the people who have taken the time to offer their advice.

I don't mean the ones who get flamed (can't blame them tbh), it's the ones who ask for help with a specific thing and then presumably just read the replies, take what's helpful and don't say thanks. I'm sure some of them just forget that they've posted but it seems to be happening more recently.

AIBU to think it's pretty rude?

I hate it when someone asks for advice, get great advice, and then don’t come back to say what it was or if it helped.

”I’ve got bad period pain”
”try x”
”will let you know how I get on”

Unfortunately half the time my post or replies I can never find again. Also I forget to check back occasionally or others kids suddenly need me and it goes from my head for a while

Why do you stay threads then? Confused

Just go into thread Threads I Started to find it.

I reckon some of them are trolls hoping to start a bunfight and when posters don't take the bait they lose interest.

Agreed

I recently responded to the one where OP showed a Queen Elizabeth drawing and asked how old we throughout the artist was. There were hundreds of replies asking OP to put us out of our misery and tell us how old they actually were... unless I'm mistaken, they never came back! It's both annoying and rude!

SoftAsABearsElbow · 03/07/2023 09:42

I don't know about rude, but I always just assume an OP who only posts the opening post and then never follows up, is probably not a genuine poster anyway. Just someone looking to trigger a bun fight.

I agree. That thread is really bugging me now! Why bother asking if you're not going to update!

PinkiOcelot · 03/07/2023 17:43

I tend to click on see all for OP posts on page 2. If OP has 0 other posts I don’t bother with the thread. It is annoying.

EarthlyNightshade · 03/07/2023 17:50

I find it really annoying if someone asks for specific advice, like "does anyone know what school are like in Bournemouth?", gets a few detailed responses and never comes back.
I gave great advice to someone once, it still rankles with me that they never came back!
If it's more a "should I have eaten the last piece of cake?" type thread, I can understand that when the pile-on starts, you might just want to hide it.
