To think extending holiday is worth it?

Partner and I are away in Spain. We decided to extend our trip by two more days as we love the resort! Now to be fair it did cost a lot-obviously the room but don’t mind that as you’d pay that anyway. The flights are the sore point as with the change fee and fair difference- it was pricey! His mom was chatting to him on the phone earlier and she was saying she’s delighted we get to have longer but thinks it’s not worth the money. Said we could have another break somewhere with the price.
now I’m feeling bad rather enjoying my extra few days! AIBU to think it was worth extending? (By the way that’s the subject here- not his mom. She’s lovely and doesn’t interfere etc- just the comment got me thinking!

It depends, what is the cost for 2 extra days ?

BonnieGlasses · 29/06/2023 00:09

Personally I wouldn't have gone to all the hassle and expense of changing flights for just 2 more days. It's hardly worth it.

Well, it depends on the cost, and your finances generally.

I don't think I would - all the hassle of time taken to make all the new arrangements. It's not just flights, is it? You've got airport transfers, and however you are getting home from the airport at the end.

I can't see that you'd gain a lot once you'd spent the time changing all the arrangements, if you were only extending by 2 days, so if it was expensive too, I'm with his Mom. I'd put the money to another break to have to look forward to.

Depending on the cost and the hassle for arranging it really. It’s 2 extra days. Would mean some faff for car parking at the airport we’d parked the car at and possibly annoying getting extra time off work but if I could afford it and easily sort those things within about 10 minutes I’d do it
and not think about it again. His mum really seems to have touched a nerve for you. But then I wonder why you hadn’t just booked a longer holiday in the first place.

The money is spent now, might as well enjoy it rather than overthinking it.

CC222 · 29/06/2023 00:19

I'd say for you to both get off your phones and enjoy your last couple of days. Make it worth while! 😊

Equalitea · 29/06/2023 08:39

How long will it have been until you could have booked that next break away?

If for example we had booked 10 days but had booked 2 weeks off work and could extend but the next time our holiday allowance reset was in 5 months, then we’d have extended if we loved where we were because we’d be booking another break in 5 months anyway. If we still had a lot of holiday allowance left then we’d have probably booked something else quite quickly if the price of extending and another booking were similar.

I wouldn't personally for just two days. Seems a lot of hassle and expense and I'd probably just clock watch after all that anyway. I'd have kept the money and used it to book another holiday instead. But if it's worth it to you then it's worth it.

Stompythedinosaur · 29/06/2023 08:43

Depends how much it cost, really.

RoseBucket · 29/06/2023 08:45

Money comes and goes, enjoy the end of your holiday.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 29/06/2023 08:45

If you can, why would you not!

DH and I had to cut a holiday short recently due to a family death, it cost a fortune-I’d way rather spend the money on extending it and always would if I could….I may love my holidays!

Pinotwoman82 · 29/06/2023 08:48

I guess if you love it there and the cost isn’t a problem for you then I’d just enjoy your extra 2 days. Also I never give people the real figure when talking about money, I just vaguely say oh it was a great deal and not go into to much detail.
