What would you spend £800 on?

I know it’s not a huge amount of money. But we had a small pay out and after paying off debts it’s what we’re left with. We don’t usually have this amount of disposable money so should we…

A - do some house renovations

B - take the kids on a modest unplanned holiday

C - keep it incase if emergencies (we have approx £600 in savings, currently.)

WWYD?!

Personally I’d spend it on bloody Taylor Swift tickets. Dd is mad about her and it’s not going to be cheap.

I would personally save £600 towards when we move house.

However in your situation I'd do some house stuff and leave a little bit to treat the kids to a nice day out somewhere x

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow 🤣 Taylor Swift is absolutely not an option. (She’s not bad just not worth £800 (to us!!)

It depends how you got the money. Was it from a relative who’d want you to enjoy it? Also will you now be able to build up your savings now that you have less debt?

Blanketenvy · 27/06/2023 18:58

In your situation I'd probably keep most of it for savings and put aside say £200 for a couple of nice days out or a cheap weekend break with the kids.
If it was me I'd probably put it towards the bloody house deposit for the house I'll never buy (despairing first time buyer!)

3AndStopping · 27/06/2023 18:58

It was from an insurance pay out where the cost to repair damage was less than the settlement.

With just £600 in savings I think you'd be mad not to put it all into savings (sorry)

saveforthat · 27/06/2023 18:58

Always holidays or short break for me.

readbooksdrinktea · 27/06/2023 18:59

At least half into savings.

3AndStopping · 27/06/2023 19:00

Yes potentially we could save more, but we moved into a house a year ago that needs work. (Re-plastering 5x rooms) and new flooring in one. So do we save or take out more credit to get this done 🤔

Put it towards a holiday for me. Would be that or savings.

NoSquirrels · 27/06/2023 19:01

£400 to emergency fund. Now it’s at a nice round £1,000 - so satisfying!

£400 on a trip somewhere fun - theme park weekend, a few nights by the coast, London, whatever floats your boat. What have you missed whilst you paid off debts? - that should help you decide.

AverageJoan · 27/06/2023 19:01

My impulsive heart would always go for a holiday but head is saying I would put it in savings for now, make a couple of quid from interest while working out how to put it to good use

You save!

3AndStopping · 27/06/2023 19:02

@sittingonacornflake that’s ok! Different people are comfortable with differing amounts in savings (mostly what they’re used to.) £600 is a quite good for us 🤣🤣 We are some where between saving enough to not stay awake at night worrying and life is short let’s just spend it!!

This sounds like a good option 👍

this does sound satisfying! & £400 is still a decent amount to do something fun with.

You’re right it does! Life is too short not to spend it but at the same time having savings is also quite helpful so I agree with @NoSquirrels.

LimoncelloSpritz · 27/06/2023 19:08

I'd have a lovely fun family day out somewhere and save the rest.

AnSionnachGlic · 27/06/2023 19:08

Do you have/want Netflix, Disney+ or other subscription channel? You could pay it in full and then you and whole family could enjoy it for the year.

3AndStopping · 27/06/2023 19:10

@AnSionnachGlic we have Netflix but it’s included with our sky package

Jeannie88 · 27/06/2023 19:11

Bit of both, have a fun blow out and save some..x

whatatime · 27/06/2023 19:12

I was also going to say £400 to savings to make them £1k and then either £400 for a night away or £200 for day out and £200 for house?
