I know it’s not a huge amount of money. But we had a small pay out and after paying off debts it’s what we’re left with. We don’t usually have this amount of disposable money so should we…

A - do some house renovations

B - take the kids on a modest unplanned holiday

C - keep it incase if emergencies (we have approx £600 in savings, currently.)

WWYD?!

But it's not for OP who has £800 extra to save. You're missing the point on purpose.

I've worked years on minimum wage and then on not much more and I certainly wouldn't be comfortable now if I blew my money every single time. I don't know why people hate taking any kind of personal responsibility/accountability for spending and never saving.

You weren’t quoting the OP. You quoted someone saying they had £0 debt and £1000 in savings and you said that that’s “normal for those that poorly manage their money instead of thinking of saving, investing, etc.”

some people have pennies left after paying all their essentials. Some people just can’t save.

Just because you can budget and save on your income doesn’t mean everyone on every income can.

In your situation I would probably put all in savings, or all bar £50-100 and spend that on a day out

But half of the people on this thread are advising OP to spend it despite barely having savings. Don't you think that shows that a lot of people do actively choose to put themselves in a worse financial position?

SoYoung · 29/06/2023 19:18

It would be savings for me. £600 is scary low.

You must be reading a different thread to me! Most people have answered a variation on a theme of ‘save some, spend some’, some people have said save it all. I doubt half the thread has said OP should blow it all.
