One of my female bosses who I don't know very well has started calling me 'M'lady.' As in 'Hello, M'lady'.
How do I stop this politely

“Just Tina is fine, thanks” and repeat.

lilpeepgothboy · 26/06/2023 22:48

Call it her back. Or say m’lord.

Crinkle77 · 26/06/2023 23:19

Why has she started calling you it? Colleagues gave nick names and vice versa but we're good friends and it's all done in jest and none of us mind. If its done to humiliate or belittle you then it's not fine.

FanFanBam · 26/06/2023 23:22

Why is she doing this? Is she taking the piss? Or is it some weird term of endearment, like “mate” or “love”.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 26/06/2023 23:33

Call her Duck. Or Your Majesty. Either it'll become an in-joke or it'll die a death. I don't think there's a way to confront this head on without making it very awkward.

determinedtomakethiswork · 26/06/2023 23:33

I wouldn't like that. I would ask her why she called me that.

mondaytosunday · 26/06/2023 23:35

@BeCruelToBeKind has the best response. It's not awkward at all.

WalkingAcrossAFord · 26/06/2023 23:39

Oooh how annoying. There was this young woman - aged 22 - when I was working somewhere some years ago, who decided to start calling me 'mum.' Really pissed me off. I thought 'no-one calls me that except my children' and it made me feel so uneasy. Can't explain why.

I was only in my flippin' mid 30s anyway and was barely old enough to be her mum anyway. It got my goat so much that I asked her to stop in the end, saying I only feel right when my children say it. So she started calling me auntie! Confused

Why she couldn't call me by my first name just baffled me. I gave up in the end and just accepted 'auntie.' Annoying though. @TinaTeaspoons All you can do is ask this person to stop, and to call you by your first name!

InSpainTheRain · 27/06/2023 00:00

Either ask her why she is calling you that or say "My name's Tina" and then pause. Do it every time, she'll soon stop.

Wendysfriend · 27/06/2023 00:09

Just say " Alright Horse"
