WOULD YOU EAT THIS ?

Ok, I just found some Chinese style chicken tights which expired on the 19th June. Completely forgot about them! I opened the package and it doesn’t smell bad or anything, just like sauce. I can’t see how it looks like because of the sauce it’s covered tho but it’s been in the fridge not freezer.

Upon the inspection I put them in the oven. Make sure they are cooked as always.

Would you eat it? Is it ok to do so?

yeah I would, taste & smell always, dates are minor info

littleripper · 25/06/2023 18:18

The flavourings will mean it smells ok but it is not! DB was hospitalised after eating a 'spanish chicken fillet'

For a vegetable sure. For chicken. No

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 25/06/2023 18:49

NO. Grin

I suspect the tights might make the chicken a bit chewy...and a week out of date is risking both 💩 and 🤮

EnthENd · 25/06/2023 18:55

No.

Maybe I'm over-cautious with use by dates. But all those who play fast and loose with dates, I wonder when the last time they got a stomach upset was? I've avoided anything like that for at least 10 years and have no desire to get sick.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 25/06/2023 18:57

No. I’m not precious about dates and a day or two over if they looked and smelled ok I’d probably go for it. But a week over, with chicken. No that’s pushing it even for me.

HappiDaze · 25/06/2023 18:58

No because it's raw chicken

I just threw a pizza away that in the fridge that was past it's best before date by a few days that had cooked meat on it.

I didn't want to take the chance especially as DS would be the one to eat it and wouldn't bother looking at the best before

Malarandras · 25/06/2023 18:58

Chicken you have to be really careful with. Never eat it after its use by date. Not worth the risk.

namechange55465 · 25/06/2023 19:14

I'd only ever do chicken the day after use by. Other meat 2 days. 6 days is absolutely not ok.

mainsfed · 25/06/2023 19:28

Are they raw or pre-cooked?

Schoolchoicesucks · 25/06/2023 19:28

If it was the 20th, probably. If it was 21st, possibly. But not 6 days later. Don't risk it OP.

KezzaMucklowe · 25/06/2023 19:32

No fucking way. Glad you're not doing it. I'm easy going with expiry dates bur even I wouldn't go there.

HappiDaze · 25/06/2023 19:34

I try to get into the habit of putting food in the freezer if it's a day past its best before so it's doesn't get forgotten and wasted.

CWigtownshire · 25/08/2024 18:40

Yes, we've never had a problem with eating out of date food, it's a con. What did you do before best before dates?

BCBird · 25/08/2024 18:42

Nooooo

AgileGreenSeal · 25/08/2024 18:42

Hopefully the op has made a decision by more, given the post is well over a year old.

Hoardasurass · 25/08/2024 18:43

@CWigtownshire as this thread is over a year old it's a bit late now

LittleGreenDuck · 25/08/2024 18:56

Christ, I started reading this not realising it was an old thread. Was dumbfounded that someone would even consider eating chicken over two months past its expiry. I feel a bit queasy.

Why did you drag up a thread well over a year old ? You actually would have had to go looking for it in the search bar

Not necessarily - it might have popped up in the 'similar threads' list at the bottom of another thread. It would, however, have had a zombie warning.

No problem with eating out of date food, no problem with resurrecting out of date threads. I'm seeing a pattern 🙃
