Dog walkers

Alana1983 · 25/06/2023 06:51

Our house backs on to a large expanse of farmers fields, with a footpath immediately behind our fence. We are the last house and then open woodland to the side, so essentially houses to one side and in front but nothing behind or to the side, all open land.

obvs dog walkers are common and never had an issue, i am a dog lover and actually enjoy the sounds that are associated with all that brings.

However, two women bring their dogs down daily and early, at 05:50 yesterday, 06:10 today and it's always around this time.

Windows are open as it's so hot and they are so loud, so chatting but loudly talking then calling their dogs over at the top of their voices, wakes the whole family up regularly.

I never get a lay in as I'm not a great sleeper so once stirred, i am
up. Same for my youngest son.

Would I be unreasonable to post in the local social media group or should I just shout to these two women in particular? I've no idea what they look like they're on the other side of the fence.

I think it's really inconsiderate at this time especially as if she kept going for another 100 metres she'd be out of earshot of any houses.

i am actually curious as to whether others on the estate hear her or if she's louder as she goes and when she gets to ours she sees open space and lets rip...I really don't know. But one in particular is extremely loud and shrill, I could cope with just voices.

Maybe I should just suck it up?

They'll be going early before it gets warm I imagine - too hot for the dogs later, in this weather. I would try to speak to them, I imagine they've no idea how loud they're being?

CherryogDog · 25/06/2023 06:56

I have dogs but I'm also very grumpy about people making noise at unreasonable times, so I would post on the local fb page if it was me.

almostoverthehill · 25/06/2023 07:13

Close the windows and put the fan on

ARareKindaBear · 25/06/2023 07:15

I would post on social media group

“just a little reminder that people living near the field are often still in bed at 6am and windows tend to be open due to the weather. Would be great if people walking their dogs on the field could keep the noise down a bit?”

Badleg85 · 25/06/2023 07:20

I started off thinking yabu but actually when I go out at 530/6am I do my best to sneak past houses and thought I'd lose my dog one day as I didn't want to shout outside a house 😂 it's a tough one though if your windows are open, try the Facebook group

^ No harm in this.

ARareKindaBear · 25/06/2023 07:23

last week I walked my dog at 6am and she saw a squirrel and started SCREAMING at the top of her voice … I was mortified! And very much expecting it to be mentioned on the Facebook group 😬

KateyCuckoo · 25/06/2023 07:27

We have the same problem with cyclists shouting tomorrow another as they go past us on a village road.

AngelicInnocent · 25/06/2023 07:30

No harm in the message pp typed but I would specify keep your voices down rather than generic noise. Some people would assume that meant dog barking etc

londonrach · 25/06/2023 07:30

Dogs are being walked early or not at all in this heat at the moment. I can see both sides of this. Can you pop polite notice on fence

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 25/06/2023 07:30

She's trying to exercise the dog early so it's not too hot for her later. ``also, she's keeping out of the way of families and we all know how much families on MN hate dogs.

And they are using a public path which they are allowed to do.

MissyB1 · 25/06/2023 07:32

Yanbu. I have to walk the dog early at the moment because of the heat, but I really try to keep her quiet, if I bump into a neighbor out with their dog we talk very quietly and are very aware most people are still in bed. I cant always stop my silly dog from making a noise but I can keep myself quiet!

Yamaya · 25/06/2023 07:32

We live next to a small park and people start walking their dogs around 4am this time of year. They let their dogs yap constantly, shout at full volume to their dogs, use whistles. I am a dog owner too but we give him his walk in the evening.
We got air conditioning in the bedrooms this year and it's been bloody amazing 😁

pinklama · 25/06/2023 07:34

Just yell out if the window (or from the garden) for her to wind it in. Too much goes on social media instead of face to face communication.

Cinnamope · 25/06/2023 07:35

Could you staple a sign to the fence asking people to be more considerate?

Alana1983 · 25/06/2023 11:03

I do know they're walking them earlier to avoid the heat, also in years of living here it's never ever been an issue, it's this one woman who passes by at that time deep in conversation with her friend (whose voice I can't hear - I've even wondered if she's actually on the phone so possibly only one woman) but anyway imagine Alan carr on full form at 06:00am every morning waking the whole house up and then I don't know if you've seen the viral 'Fenton' dog video but if not it's blooming hilarious but then imagine her shouting her dog as that's what she does. Our garden is actually triangular as we are the end plot so it really is like she's outside the bedroom window at some point.

Fans aren't the same as fresh air, let's be honest. And it does seem a shame for 1 person as it's always the same person.

I am going to contemplate a couple of suggestions. It's not that we're not early risers, I am usually up at 07:00 at the latest most days anyway it's more that she wakes the kids and I let them stay up
later at weekends and in holidays so I'd prefer them to sleep in a bit but they can't with foghorn leghorn screaming blue murder at her dog!

She can do that quietly though. Even when I'm out in my own garden early with my dog I keep the noise down.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 25/06/2023 11:08

It's a public footpath. You cannot expect everybody to stick to your preferences there.

LlynTegid · 25/06/2023 11:08

Talk to them. Claim you've heard something they would never want others to know about.

She can. I not saying she shouldn't.

What I'm saying is that OP is unreasonable in expecting the public to stick to her rules.

It’s not unreasonable to expect the public to have a bit of decency and common sense at 6am in a morning

You can guarantee if OP did this a post would appear on Facebook asking the woman yelling out of her window at 6am to be more considerate to her neighbours 😂

Anothercrappyusername · 25/06/2023 12:01

Shout out the window for her to quiet.
Probably oblivious, maybe if she’s sees she’s woken you and you’re annoyed the penny will drop.
I think the Facebook post will go over her head, assuming she sees it.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 25/06/2023 12:09

YANBU. I have a dog who needs early walks but that doesn't mean I go around shouting at full volume.
