Sunburned face, AIBU

I was sat in the shade for a few hours today.

I put SPF 50 on my face in the morning but only put the tiniest, very thin layer on my forehead and did not bother to reapply it despite the fact I was sweating a bit. I was in the shade away from the sun, or at least that’s what I thought

My whole forehead is pink! It’s not sore or painful at all but does feel warm to the touch. It’s definitely sun related unfortunately as the rest of my face is my normal skin tone. I feel annoyed with myself, I usually try to take really good precaution in the sun and don’t know how this could have happened

I am worried about premature skin ageing or worse from this… AIBU to worry, given it’s just happened this once? I will never be so lax again!

I think that you need to relax, a lot.

What's done can't be undone so it's pointless worrying about it now
I only learned recently that facial sunscreen should be applied four times a day so that's probably where you've slipped up
Moisturise well now

TeaKitten · 24/06/2023 23:40

It’s one time, you are really over reacting. You will be fine!

StillMedusa · 24/06/2023 23:42

Seriously? You'll live.
Child of the 70's here..never sunscreened, burned every summer . Yes I look my age, but one pink forehead isn't going to cause you to wrinkle like a prune !
Plus unless you are taking vit D3 supplements... you actually do NEED some non factor 50 sun exposure!

You'll be fine! It's many YEARS of constant sunburn/suntanning that takes its toll, not one time!

planthelpadvice · 24/06/2023 23:44

You do know how it happened. You say so in your post - you only applied a little bit of SPF, you were sweating and you didn't apply any more. 🤷🏼‍♀️

But this one incident isn't going to age you prematurely or give you skin cancer. And it sounds like you've realised your (fairly minor) mistake.

Put a cold flannel on your forehead for a bit and then moisturise. You'll be fine 🙂

Lacucuracha · 24/06/2023 23:50

Why single out your forehead for a tiny, thin layer?

You’ll be fine.

Most people have sun damaged skin just from walking around on not even sunny days.

TeaAndTattoos · 24/06/2023 23:53

How can you say you don’t know how it happened when you said yourself in your op that you put a thin tiny amount on your forehead sweated and never bothered to put anymore on and you seem very surprised that wasn’t enough to stop you from getting sunburnt. Do me a favour stop acting daft and calm down it was only once it won’t cause any major skin damage.
