To remind people how to read all OP’s posts before posting?

Look, nobody likes a drip-feeding OP, but by the time you read a thread things may very well have moved on. If you interrupted a friend halfway through her story and offered her advice you’d feel pretty bloody stupid when she told you that she had already done what you suggested!

Please please please use “See All” (mobile site) or “Filter OP’s posts only” (app) before replying to threads.

Pics below in case you don’t know how to find this magic function. MB you can also highlight OP’s posts in a different colour in settings if you want to see them in context while scrolling through all the responses as well.

(The thread I picked as the example is a particularly bad one).

I agree, totally. But making the millionth thread about it will not make people stop. Just like people will ask questions that are plainly addressed in OP; or people quoting the longest posts. All ridiculous, all a PITA and irritating but so are these threads complaining about them.

Was the title not a big enough clue that this might be a thread that would annoy you? You just clicked so you could say it annoyed you. Glad to have scratched that itch for you.

I have been on here years and this subject comes up time and time again. It’s not for you to police, no matter how annoying you find it.

Its almost as tedious as "everybody here is mean" and "dont quote the OP"

Lefteyetwitch · 23/06/2023 17:56

ChocChipHandbag · 23/06/2023 17:48

You do, but only on the OP.

No. Some of us don't have it at all. I've been in touch with MN and they're useless about it.

HappyKatieA · 23/06/2023 17:50

I'm so excited! I really didn't know that previously, that's going to save me hours!

Took me a while to find it on the app too, which is why I thought worth pointing it out.

I had to switch to the app because the mobile site was too slow on my old phone. New phone, back on mobile site now.

Glad to have helped.

@ChocChipHandbag wow sensitive.

You know other things that annoys me:

People who repeatedly start threads about the same thing just to gain some attention.

People who get up their own arses and shout down people who don't agree with everything they say (although I did agree with you and add other bug bears in solidarity).

Completely narcissistic

On an up-to-date iPhone? Not sure why it would vary from user to user?

I use the app on Android and the only options I get when I click the 3 little dots is Report, Quote and Bookmark.
And because I have the app, if I access a thread through the Web browser it automatically redirects me to view the thread on the app.

No on an up to date Android. S20+. I've been through it with MN. Many have. Some of us Just don't have it. I'd love to but we don't.

What’s your objection to someone being helpful? Do you genuinely think that people are seeing “See All”, know what it does and are choosing not to use it?

What harm does it do if a few people learn something from my thread?

I'm on the app (android) but the only options are share and report.

This.

Yeah it's really very frustrating. Perhaps OP didn't know this. Might explain why some people are doing it.

Ah OK. The post that you quoted was my reply to a pp who had specified that she was on an iPhone. I had already read the post above that confirmed that the function was not available on Android so my “you do” was based on knowing she was not on Android. I presumed you had also seen that post and that, therefore you meant “iPhone users” when you said “us”.

"To remind people how to read all OP’s posts before posting?"

I'd abbreviate that to "To remind people how to read ".

There are so many posts where the poster has not read and/or understood the problem - nothing to do with website v. app.
When it happens to me, I either ignore or say thanks for the reply; what I really want to say is RTFT.

Def NBU. It’s like it doesn’t occur to people that the OPs position may change. Either a drip feed, or events unfold in real time or OP changes mind. So OP does an AIBU - everyone says YABU, OP graciously changes mind and thanks posters, a further 100 people pile in having not read updates.

I don’t see it as policing threads so much as a bit of community action to help Mumsnet seem a little bit less unhinged.

And while we’re here, yes obvs don’t quite opening post, especially if you’re the first person to reply.

ChocChipHandbag · 23/06/2023 18:11

Can you change the colour of the OP’s posts on the Android app? That might make things a little bit easier as you can speed scroll for them.

The app is loads easier on phones than the website is

I disagree, personal preference though. You are using the Mobile site not the desktop one?

on the app you can’t quote a post that already has a quote in it; that is easy on the mobile site.

I’m not a fan of the speech bubbles on the app.

For a while it wasn’t able to access the photo library properly, though they did fix that.

You can’t preview on the app.

The app is quicker though on an older phone, probably because of the stripped-back functionality. I imagine that is why many people use it.

GoodChat · 23/06/2023 18:23

@ChocChipHandbag to be fair I dont need to preview - i dont see the point.

I definitely find it easier. The mobile browser is messy for me.

First rule of MN @PickySlackTastic is that no thread is complete without a large proportion of posts telling the OP she’s an idiot who should not have posted. Imagine if people actually took heed, the boards would be tumbleweed Grin

I don’t use Preview much but it’s handy if posting a link or a picture.
