Loos at the Drs

ggffty · 23/06/2023 12:58

Aibu?

I went to the Drs today and there was a male toilet but no female toilet only an all genders loo.

I am actually afraid the position of being female is being forced to disappear.

Am I being silly?

Did you make a complaint?

Did you make a complaint?

I asked where the female loos were but was asked why I couldn't just use the all gender loos.

Are women disappearing!

jeaux90 · 23/06/2023 13:03

No you aren't being silly. I would complain and use the equality act to have the conversation as it's sexist. Men are allowed privacy but women aren't...JFC

luffkinks · 23/06/2023 13:10

Definitely complain in writing.
There should not be more provision for men than women.
Was the men's a cubicle or urinal do you know?

UsingChangeofName · 23/06/2023 13:16

If they were both toilet cubicles, I would be surprised they couldn't be used by either sex. Is it possible that one just had a urinal in it ?

Deadringer · 23/06/2023 13:30

I would ask why there is a toilet for men but not for women. Women need more toilets than men generally, but especially at the Dr's where women are more likely to have bladder issues and utis, and likely to need a loo because of pregnancy, menstruation, breastfeeding (changing breat pads) or to need to get a urine sample. It's disgraceful and I would complain.

Have you namechanged?
If you have it appears that it's an all gender loo, not a mens' loo.

billy12546 · 23/06/2023 13:39

No there was one mens loo, no female loos and two all gender loos

Read it again. There were two loos. One all gender, one men only. No ladies.

In a place where there are likely to be more women than men.

Allinadayswork80 · 23/06/2023 13:40

I think that’s shocking. I would put in a complaint in writing to find out their reasoning behind this. Seems very wrong to me.

ButterCrackers · 23/06/2023 13:41

As there’s a men’s loo there should be a woman’s loo as well. They either put both as just loos or label one for men and one for women.

justteanbiscuits · 23/06/2023 13:42

Both toilets are all gender at my GP and have been for at least the 10 years I've been going there. Each is self enclosed so there really is no issue.

justteanbiscuits · 23/06/2023 13:43

Maybe the one that had been left at men only had a urinal in? did you ask them about it?

OooohAhhhh · 23/06/2023 13:43

I came across this the other week as well in a museum, gender neutral toilets.
I don't want to walk into a pissy smelling toilet thanks, mens toilets stink. There was no urinal in it, it was a proper toilet. Men will be spraying wee everywhere.

justteanbiscuits · 23/06/2023 13:46

Where has everyone's outrage been for the last 50 years that accessible toilets have always been mixed gender. Where is the outrage at disabled women having to "put up with men's piss"?

skyfalldown · 23/06/2023 13:48

unisex toilets are fine but I hate when they turn only the women's into a unisex one and leave the men's as-is. we already have to queue half the time, all you're doing is giving men 2 places to use and we only get 1. completely undermines the whole point

Agree. Also used by people with no mobility and/or medical issues.

luffkinks · 23/06/2023 13:51

So 3 loos men can use them all and women can only use two?

Women need greater toilet provision

Women generally require a higher level of toilet provision than men. This is because women take longer to use the toilet for biological and clothing reasons

  1. Women generally require twice as many appliances as men to achieve equal waiting time:
  • â—‹ The average time that a woman spends in a toilet cubicle is 90 seconds.
  • â—‹ The average time a man spends at a urinal is 35 seconds.
  • â—‹ The average time a man spends in a toilet cubicle is 210 seconds, however most male toilet use will be for urination.
  • â—‹ Overall, the average time taken to use the facilities is 1.5 minutes for a woman and 0.75 minutes for a man (where urinals are provided).1 0
  1. In public spaces, women are more likely to be supervising small children than men are, although provision should account for both men and women being accompanied by their children, and needing nappy-changing facilities for babies.
  2. Where men and women’s toilets are provided in equal-sized rooms, women’s toilets are usually underprovided, resulting in longer queues. Women’s needs have also been under-recognised and under-prioritised by planning committees, architects and facilities managers, which are frequently male-dominated.1 1 To address this, laws, regulations and standards specify the number of female and male toilets for different situations.
  3. Any reduction in functional single sex female toilet provision is likely to be particuarly detrimental to women. In order to assess whether provision of female toilets is adequate, providers, standard setters, and regulators need to be able to count them.

I’m so sick of places do this, it’s always the women’s toilets that are removed, never the mens. It’s flat out sexism.

Because these people don’t care about all women’s rights. They’re only bothered when their lives are inconvenienced. Modern feminism writ large.

I find that it is only when certain people are affected by anything, then they seem to take note, and complain.

This.

And I hate when they're called 'all gender', genders don't go to the toilet, biologically sexed bodies do. And many of us don't have a gender - if the options are all gender or men's I can't go to either, can I, being as though I haven't got a gender? It's a unisex toilet, call it what it is.

Is this something you've been campaigning to change yourself then? Or are you just using disabled women as a gotcha?
