To think matching twin names are cringy?

My friend’s pregnant with twins and is excitedly shortlisting names in our group chat. Quite a few of her suggestions have either matching initials or rhyme, or both.

Obviously it’s her and her husband’s choice and I’m not going to piss on her chips, but AIBU to think matching names are a bad idea?

Agree that it depends. Bill and Jill, or Darren and Karen sound daft. But Ruby and Jade are OK, and I love Harmony and Melody.

As an aside, I remember in the Slaters (on Eastenders,) there was a Lynne and a Belinda. I mean WTF? Lynda and Belinda?!

Why? I have the same first initial as a few of my siblings, I can't understand why this is even a thing. I've never felt like I wasn't an individual. The only time I can see it might be an issue is with twins.

More to do with identifying belongings, mail, etc DH and I have the same initials and it's a pain in the bum although we get less paper mail now.

I went to school with twins whose names rhymed and even as a teenager, I thought it was daft.

But then again, naming your kids badly isn't reserved for twins. I'm related to someone (John, after his dad and grandad) who has two boys: John and... Jack, a well-known nickname for John. Put a bit more thought into it, my guy 😭

Again never been an issue for me and I have several siblings with the same initial. If you need to distinguish by initials you can include middle initial or age/ class initial. Not a reason to change a name you want to give your child.

I should have named mine Chalk and Cheese, they couldn't be more different. Now belligerent teenagers, I'm pretty sure if I'd given them twee matchy names they'd probably hate me for it! 😂 Never dressed them the same either, but had a friend who did that with hers when they were small. I remember being quite judgy about it at the time, but actually it made us learn to tell them apart by their features and not rely on what they were wearing so 🤷‍♀️. Now they're older the wear what they want of course.
