Hi all, not really an AIBU but I would love many opinions/experiences hence I am posting here.

Please let me know which work pattern is the best for 4 day working. Mondays/Fridays off is not an option.
Keep in mind that my day off is the day I will be at home with my 1 year old, the rest 4 days he will be at the nursery.

AIBU:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday in the office
Thursday off
Friday work from home

AINBU:
Monday, Tuesday in the office
Wednesday off
Thursday in the office
Friday work from home

Out of those choices I would rather have Wednesdays off as it breaks the week up more - you’re only ever working two days in a row.

I'd go for Wednesday off too

I know it's not one of your options but I used to love working in the office on Fridays. Quieter commute, space in the carpark, quieter in the office with fewer meetings so I got more done, cake.

When my eldest was little I decided 2 days away from me was enough so that's why I'd pick Weds for my day off. But you can equally well argue you'd prefer to break the back of your working week and power through til Thursday

The nursery might like you having Wednesdays off if they have a lot of parents working Mon-Wed and Wed-Fri.
If there are any activities you'd like to be able to do with your child (eg swimming) then that might affect things.

Thursdays off without a doubt.

This is because you'll be able to sometimes just take 1 day of annual leave on the Friday and have a stretch of 4 days off (5 if it coincides with a bank holiday weekend)

Also it'll feel so good to only have 1 more day to work after your day off.

I'd be inclined for wednesday, but I think it depends on when you have things happening at work that you need to attend. Tues/Wed/Thurs are the days that people I work with are normally working (most of us PT), so Mon/Fri off is usually ideal as I am less likely to miss an important meeting or email. Or alternatively, what days you are able to get childcare for as our nursery often didn't have all days available. All other things being equal, I'd rather have off Wednesday as means that it isn't a scramble on a Friday to get everything finished for the me.

Happyhappyeveryday · 23/06/2023 10:02

Wednesday off is the best. I’ve tried a few patterns and love this one.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/06/2023 10:03

Wednesday off- would allow
me just to keep the balance of the house work etc - Thursday and Friday back to back is no where near as productive

Caterpillor · 23/06/2023 10:18

I'd definitely go for Thursday off. Then you can take holiday on a Fri and have a very long weekend.

Wednesday off breaks up childcare for little one
