GP for bruise and blood?

LegoVsFoot · 23/06/2023 09:15

AIBU…no family in this country to ask

My 5 year old son came home yesterday with a massive bruise on his leg out of nowhere. I asked how it happened and he said he doesn’t know. Also has a new bruise on forearm and a tiny one on his cheek (noticed this morning)

Then this morning he calls me in after going to the toilet. There is red blood on the paper and in the toilet but he says there is no pain.

Call the GP? Surely if related or serious it wouldn’t all just happen this morning?

Yes call the GP.

endofthelinefinally · 23/06/2023 09:19

Yes. This does need medical attention now.

Lolloped · 23/06/2023 09:20

Speak to doctor ASAP

Babsexxx · 23/06/2023 09:23

Yeah without a doubt he could have internal bleeding!

LegoVsFoot · 23/06/2023 09:23

Thank you I am on hold to them now

I just wasnt sure because when I looked it up I saw it was most likely just a tear. But then it said all GP if there is also unexplained bruising - but it has all happened this morning so seemed odd it would all be that fast if something serious

Im worries that you even need to ask!

if that bruising I would keep an eye on it (my 5 year old is covered in them!) but bleeding from the bowel can be very serious and I’d be down to A&E personally, with photos of the blood this morning.

I hope he’s ok x

HootyMcBooby76 · 23/06/2023 09:37

100% he needs a doc appointment, probably for bloods (CBC) and general health check as well as a look at his bottom to check for tears etc.
Was he constipated?
How is he in himself? Energy levels, appetite etc?

Definitely see a doctor.

Doggymummar · 23/06/2023 09:39

Very worrying 😞

LegoVsFoot · 23/06/2023 09:39

Totally fine in himself,
no constipation. He said he didn’t want to go to school and was very tired on the walk but that didn’t stand out to me as particularly unusual.
I am caller 34 to the gp…maybe i should call school and take him to a&e if they have no appointments? I have no idea what it could be or how urgent it is.

The tiredness is significant. If you cant get him seen today I would take him to a walk in clinic if there is one, or A&E.

LulooLemon · 23/06/2023 09:44

Stay on the phone. He needs a medical opinion.

HootyMcBooby76 · 23/06/2023 09:45

Can you call NHS 24 (111)? Might get a faster response than GP?

mindutopia · 23/06/2023 09:56

Tiredness, unexplained bruising and bleeding all coming on suddenly should be a big red flag for a GP. So I would definitely have him seen today - GP or 111.

LegoVsFoot · 23/06/2023 10:09

I an on the way back to school so 111 can do a phone assessment
it’s a big school trip he has been looking forward to so I don’t want to take him out if he doesnt need it but his health comes first

OP posts:
sparepantsandtoothbrush · 23/06/2023 10:12

That all sounds concerning put together OP. I don't think he'll be going on his school trip but, as you said, his health comes first

Balloonhearts · 23/06/2023 10:13

I think he does need to see a doctor ASAP, it's the unexplained bruising and tiredness that would worry me, as to me it screams leukemia. But I've had experience of it in the family so I may be projecting my own fears there. Don't worry unduly just yet but definitely get him seen.

Sallywallywoowoo · 23/06/2023 10:15

Umm words like "leukemia" don't really fit with "don't worry unduly just yet"
OP definitely get him seen. I hope everything works out ok. I'm sure there are lots of other things it could be, not just the big scary ones.

LegoVsFoot · 23/06/2023 10:45

Thanks everyone
he has an urgent appointment this afternoon
so will go on his class trip and i can pick him up and take him after
🤞

Make sure his teacher knows that if he has any more bleeding or feels unwell they need to get help immediately.

LegoVsFoot · 23/06/2023 16:06

GP found more bruises and raised lymph nodes so we are being referred for urgent blood tests :(
