AIBU for being angry that my windows have been egged

I live in on the second floor of a high rise flat with DP & DS (8 weeks old), lived here a little under 2 years now & haven’t had any issues prior.
Last night around 12am our bedroom window was egged, it woke us all up, DS jumped & woke up screaming, DP ran to the window to see who it was but they had already scurried off, he went outside to look around & noticed it was only our window that had been egged, like we were targeted specifically. I took to our local neighbourhood watch group on fb & it seemed the only responses I got were “be grateful it wasn’t bricks” or “haha, good, it’s kids being kids, better than going round stabbing people”, everyone seemed to think it was funny & justified it by saying ‘it’s just what kids do’, but I didn’t do things like that growing up & I’d be MORTIFIED if one of my neighbours told me my son had egged their home. AIBU for being so angry about this?

No YANBU..It happened to my Mum years ago on Halloween. Egged all her back door for absolutely no reason at all.
Those saying kids will be kids wouldn't say it if it happened to them. As for justifying it with at least they aren't stabbing anyone well that speaks volumes about their IQ.

FrenchBoule · 22/06/2023 23:12

It’s vandalism and anti-social behaviour. Nothing to do with being kids.

SoccerStars · 22/06/2023 23:14

No YANBU and as you were possibly targeted and it was midnight I’d see it as
an act of aggression tbh. If the “kids” were out at that time it’s likely they were that young as well.

That's awful

If you can, clean it off as soon as possible, as we had this in our student house and it was impossible to get off after the white had dried - it was utterly immovable and would have needed serious scraping and risk breaking the window. It might be hard if you're on the second floor, depending on what kind of windows you have, but worth hiring a window cleaner if you can't get at them yourself.

You’re not being unreasonable at all. I’m sorry to hear this happened to you. Keep a record this happened, in case you need it later.

Thank you for this! Luckily we did manage to clean it off early this morning. I get the feeling they may throw more tonight if they’ve seen us cleaning the window this morning. I’m hoping it was just a one off & won’t become a regular occurrence.

I’m so sorry to hear that happened to your mom, I’ve never understood why people excuse behaviour like that with ‘it’s just kids being kids’, not all kids do that, I sure didn’t, my parents would of gone ballistic.

Yup been there, plus bricks also at other times. Nobody cares, council installed many cctv which covers my house from many angles, apparently it doesn't seem to be in use to detect crime Confused

My only hope for peace is that the wanky perpetrators will eventually grow up or go to prison

YANBU - this happened to me a few months back, repeatedly. It was horrible - cleaning the windows every time, only for it to happen again. We now have a camera so that if it happens again, at least we'll have some footage.

Not their IQ - their morals.

I was egged walking along the street while heavily pregnant by the occupants of a passing car. People are cunts.

Came to say the same! We had our bedroom windows done and didn't have long enough ladders to clean ourselves. Tried a hose etc and had to pay window cleaner extra because it was so hard. At first I did wonder if it was personal but only happened the once thankfully.

Yanbu!!

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/06/2023 14:27

Two kids egged our house a few years ago and the police dealt with them. It's vandalism. Anyone who has to deal with this, full fat coke is great at removing even dried on egg.
